HW: Complete the first half of book 2.1 tonight (or webassign 2.1 day 1).
We found the derivative using the limit definition with 3 different different functions (linear, quadratic and square root). We also showed how to check the reasonableness of our derivative with our graphing calculator. Students also received a 2.1 assignment sheet.
HW: Complete the first half of book 2.1 tonight (or webassign 2.1 day 1). We completed an in class activity where students needed to guess the equation for a given graph. We graphs all looked like line; however, they were each y = sin (x) zoomed in at x = o, pi/2 and 3pi/4. We discovered that there are many functions that are locally linear. We also found that the absolute value function is not locally linear at the origin. We understood the meaning of the derivative as the slope of the tangent line at a certain point. If a function is not locally linear at a particular value "a", then it will not have a derivative at "a."
We also watched a short video on the difference quotient. http://www.calculus-help.com/the-difference-quotient/ HW: Read the WS Concept of Derivative and answers the first 3 questions. Students completed their chapter 1 test. We'll start chapter 2 on Monday.
Enjoy the weekend! Students received their 1.4 quizzes back and we went over the entire quiz. Students received a book review to be the most prepared for your chapter 1 test tomorrow. Answers to today's review are posted on the AP Calc page. The answers to the last page are
#19 removable discontinuity at x = 0 #20 jump discontinuity at x = 0 HW: Complete today's worksheet chapter 1 review and do the book review assignment to be the most prepared for your chapter 1 test tomorrow. Please review your 3 tests from this chapter. Students completed a quick 5 question warm-up on limits graphically. Then we answered 2 questions from 1.4 homework (63, 67) and then students completed their quiz 1.4 (had 30 minutes). Students used the rest of class to complete their book assignment 1.5.
HW: complete their book assignment 1.5 & test on Friday, 9/25. Students completed a 5 question warm-up. Then we went over the entire 1.4 Practice Quiz.
HW: 1.4 Continuity Quiz (10 questions no calculator) is tomorrow, 9/23 Start book assignment 1.5 (do at least 5 - 10 problems) tonight. You will have class time after the quiz to complete 1.5. Class started with a 5 question warm-up. We also went over the 3 commonly missed questions from quiz 1.3 (#3, #4, #13). Then we went over WS Continuity (2 - 5). We'll check #6 tomorrow - complete it if you have not done so.
Then we completed our notes on 1.5 limit using infinity (either x approaching infinity or as the graph goes to infinity). HW: Complete the 1.5 WS packet and the 1.4 Practice Quiz. Quiz 1.4 will be on Wednesday and Test on chapter 1 will be this Friday, 9/25. Bring your book tomorrow as we will have some time to work on book assignment 1.5 in class. We went over 1-9 on WS Continuity and #1 in the additional practice section. Students need to complete the packet by Monday, 9/21. We started our notes on 1.5 and will complete them on Monday.

We will discuss commonly missed questions on Monday. HW: Complete book 1.4, today Continuity packet, WS Limits (1 - 12, skip #5) We went over the half sheet from yesterday. Students also had time in class to find a missing value that would make the piecewise function continuous. We went over these 4 problems in class. Students who were absent yesterday completed the Quiz 1.3 in class. Quiz 1.1 - 1.2 was returned to students.
Watch these 2 short videos. Pause the video to do the problem on your own and then check by playing the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q8QyW_cWb8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhz4w7aVNYo HW: Complete all of book assignment 1.4 and finish WS Limits (1 - 12, not 5) by Monday. WS 1.1/1.4 Limits & Continuity should have problems 1 & 2 done. We went over the continuity review sheet from yesterday. Students then completed their quiz 1.3.
HW: Complete the half sheet from class and problems 1 & 2 on WS 1.1/1.4 Limits & Continuity. |
