Homework is webassign 3.1 or book 3.1 : page 169 - 170 1 - 21 odd, 25, 27, 39, 54, 57 - 60
We completed our notes on critical numbers and absolute extrema.
Homework is webassign 3.1 or book 3.1 : page 169 - 170 1 - 21 odd, 25, 27, 39, 54, 57 - 60 Students completed their test today. They received their partner quiz 2.5 back.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Students completed their partner quiz 2.5 (implicit differentiation). Students were also given a review sheet 2.5 - 2.6 so they could practice implicit differentiation or related rates problems. Answers are on the back.
For the last 25 minutes, we went over the study guide. The answers for 16 - 22 are below. NOTE: 22d should say x = 2 and 22f should say x = 1. 16. dA/dt = 20 pi cm^2/min 17. dV/dt = 588 pi cubic inches/minute 18. dV/dt = 288 cubic cm/second 19. dh/dt = 2/(5 pi) or 0.127 feet/minute 20. dy/dt = -0.6755 feet/second 21. v(t) = -9.8t + 140 v(4) = 100.8 m/s 22b) -48 22 c) right since v(3)> 0 22 d) slowing down since v(2) >0 and a (2) < 0 22e) at t = o the particle is at rest since v(0) = 0 22 f) right since v(1) > 0 Test is tomorrow. Students are able to 1) Use the constant, power, product & quotient rules and CHAIN Rule to find the derivative (trig included) 2) Be able to write the equation of a tangent line (know that the derivative is the slope of the tangent line) 3) Find a derivative given a graph or a data table 4) Know how to find a derivative using implicit differentiation 5) Be able to identify x or y values where there is a horizontal or vertical tangent line 6) Be able to find the velocity or acceleration of a particle given its position equation; determine which way a particle is traveling, determine when it is at rest, determine if it is speeding up or slowing down, determine if the velocity is increasing or decreasing at a specific moment in time. Students will provided proper justifications for their answers. 7) Be able to set up and solve related rates problems. We completed our last 3 problems in our notes. We also went over question #2 from last night's homework. Students also were given a study guide for their test on Friday.
HW: complete 3 - 6 on WS Related Rates and half of your study guide. Students completed 3 review problems on implicit differentiation. We went over #11 and #13 from yesterday's homework. Then we started our notes on related rates. We completed 2 examples and were half way through #3.
Please watch the video links below. Pause the video and see if you can work out each problem. First 2 videos involve cones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv4gTxWqeBE&feature=relmfu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTYvMpVITg8 Trig https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdc6Ih-ROt8 Right triangle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHBqcKW4Xk0 HW: Complete #7 and #11 on today's WS Implicit Differentiation (answers are on the back side) and do problems 1 & 2 on today's WS Related Rates (Kuta). Very short quiz on implicit differentiation tomorrow. We we over 1 - 8 on WS Implicit Differentiation Classwork. We completed #6 and #8 on the homework sheet. Students were give time to complete the odds on WS Implicit Differentiation Homework. Students also completed their particle motion quiz from last Friday.
HW: complete the odds on WS Implicit Differentiation Homework We completed a 3 problem review on particle motion. Students had 30 minutes to complete their particle motion quiz and for the last 10 minutes they were able to consult with a peer. WS Packet on Implicit differentiation was given out.
HW: Complete 1 - 8 on WS Implicit differentiation (classwork) Students received WS Topic AB 07 – Chain Rule and we completed the first 3 problems in class. Implicit differentiation is just an extension of the chain rule. We completed the first 3 examples in our notes on implicit differentiation.

Please complete problems 4 - 8 in the chain rule packet. Watch the link on implicit differentiation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ximF06lmqPM Students had time to collaborate with each other on the completion of WS #3 on Speed. We went over the entire packet in class and completed the 6 question quiz. We also went over 4c on yesterday's worksheet. We also went over parts a and d of the AP FRQ. We showed how to use the graphing calculator to evaluate a derivative at a point and get the intersection of 2 functions. Then students had time to complete today's worksheet.
HW: Complete both sides of today's worksheet (start with the 4 AP questions first, then move to the Toyota story on the other side). Quiz this Friday on particle motion. |
