HW: Complete any work from book (or webassign) 5.4 and 5.1.
Students completed their test on 3.5 - 3.9 (not 3.8).
HW: Complete any work from book (or webassign) 5.4 and 5.1. Students took 12 minutes to complete their quizzes. Students were given a review over 3.5 - 3.9 (not 3.8). The answer key is posted on the AP Calculus AB page.
HW: Test tomorrow over 3.5 - 3.9 (not 3.8). Turn in any missing work from 3.5 - 3.9. We did a 15 - 20 minute review of 3.9, 5.1, and 5.4 in class. Students had 25 minutes to work on the quiz. Students should be able to wrap up the quiz tomorrow in 10 minutes.
HW: Complete any of the work from 3.9, 5.1, 5.4 (book or webassign). Test will be Friday on 3.5 - 3.9 (not 3.8). Students had time to complete a short review of 5.1 & 5.4. We went over the 8 questions in class. We also discussed questions from sections 3.9, 5.4, and 5.1. Some students completed an additional optimization question to boost their Quiz 3.7 grade.
HW: Complete any missing work from 3.9, 5.1, & 5.4. Quiz tomorrow over these 3 sections. We started with a review of linearization and differentials. We worked out examples on 2 pages. Students are to complete the last 3 problems
We also looked at our derivative rule for ln(u) = (1/u) (du/dx). We completed our notes which contained 7 examples. Use the links below for help/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YH8BrlVTqk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmKqJ69YaTk HW: Book 5.4 or webassign 5.4 & 3 problems from the WS review of linearization and differentials. We completed the classwork side of WS Linear Approximations. The linearization of the function at a point is just the equation of the tangent line at that point. We also completed #1 & #2 on the homework side.
Students received their quizzes back and we will go over these on Monday. Students will be able to improve their score on Tuesday by completing another question correctly given 2 questions. As I was closing out our notes from today, I noticed 3 things. On example 1, I lost the 1/3 as we calculated 8^(-2/3), so the slope of the EOT is 1/12, not 1/4. On example 2, we wrote the slope was e^0 which is 1; however, I wrote "e". So the EOT should be y = x + 1. Lastly, on #3 dy = the approximate change in y and the problem asked for the "error." The error amount is the difference between the actual function value and the value from the linearization, L(x). In this case, Error = f(4 + h) - L(4 + h). We will revisit this problem on Monday. Sorry, long week for Mrs. S. Use the link for additional help/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMeJYSvXKxc HW: Complete 3, 5 - 9 on WS Linear Approximations - Homework; do webassign 3.9 & 5.4 or Book 3.9: page 240 - 241 1, 2, 4, 12 - 18 even, 15, 17, 19, 22 - 24, 29, 30, 34 Book 5.4: page 358 - 359 37 - 43 odd, 47, 49, 50, 53, 65, 91 We completed the 2 additional examples from 3.9 WS Classwork on differentials. We also did #1 from the homework together. Students should complete 2 - 5. Then we went through our notes on the derivative rule for e^u. We completed 1 - 7 on the WS Derivative of exponential functions.

Students completed the 2 part quiz 3.7 (first 2 questions on their own, the last 3 with a partner). This took most of class. We will need to finish up section 3.9 differentials.
HW: Please turn in the homework from week 1 (listed in IC) and complete 1 - 5 on WS Differentials (given out last Friday). Due to student feedback, today we spent as a review day on optimization. An additional sheet of notes/tips was given. We went through the key steps in the process. Students had time to work in a small group on the first 5 questions. I visited groups to answer questions. We went over #3 and #5 together in the packet. Students should answer all 7 questions tonight as part of their review.
HW: Complete the 7 questions in today's review packet; complete any remaining questions from your other 3.7 worksheets. Quiz 3.7 is tomorrow, 1/20. We went over the first 8 answers to the last optimization worksheet. We also completed the boat and ambulance (problem #10) together in class. We started our examples on differentials; key point being that dy is the approximate change and not the actual change at a particular x-value and given change in x.
The link below has some more worked out examples (scroll down and you'll find them) http://www.cliffsnotes.com/math/calculus/calculus/applications-of-the-derivative/differentials HW: Complete your optimization problems from both worksheets. Optimization quiz is on Tuesday, you will pick 3 of 4 problems. |
