We completed an in class activity where students needed to guess the equation for a given graph. We graphs all looked like line; however, they were each y = sin (x) zoomed in at x = o, pi/2 and 3pi/4. We discovered that there are many functions that are locally linear. We also found that the absolute value function is not locally linear at the origin. We understood the meaning of the derivative as the slope of the tangent line at a certain point. If a function is not locally linear at a particular value "a", then it will not have a derivative at "a."
