Students received their quizzes back from yesterday. Many students had issues solving a non-linear system. We went over some common errors and did a few practice problems. Also, we are skipping section P.4. We will have a mini-test over P.1 - P.3 on Wednesday, September 3rd.
Homework: Complete the book review for chapter P (on the assignment sheet, nothing on weba We completed 10 review problems, mostly from P.3 Then student had the last 20 minutes to complete the quiz.
HW: Make sure you have completed all of the P.3 work (either book P.3 or on webassign) We started with 10 review questions that we discussed in class. We also reviewed transformations of functions with about 8 examples. Students also answered 3 questions on the first part of P.3 (yesterday's material). We also went over the topics from P.1 & P.2 that will be on the first quiz tomorrow.
HW: Complete P.3 assignment (www.webassign.net or book P.3) and be ready for Quiz P.1 - P2. Today we started some of the information in P.3: domain & range, function notation, and composition of functions. We also gave students the opportunity to ask questions from their homework on P.1 & P.2. We went over #60, 79, and 86 from P.2, & questions written on webassign were replied to.
Our first quiz over P.1 & P.2 will be this Thursday, August 28th. HW: Start the P.3 problems on www.webassign.net or on the assignment sheet. These are due on Thursday, August 28th. We did a review of key concepts in section P.2: determining the slope given 2 points and writing the equation of a line with various givens. We went through 10 problems together and then students had the opportunity to try 4 on their own.
We also had time to help those students who were having issues with www.webassign.net (log in information is on the 8/22 blog). HW: Complete the P.2 assignment on the assignment sheet or on www.webassign.net Students received their books today. They also received an access code for www.webassign.net and are to complete the online homework for P.1 (or you can complete the book assignment for P.1 if you have issues with WebAssign). We examined symmetry from graphical and algebraic perspectives. HW: P.1 (do WebAssign or book - no need to do both)
We had a student demonstrate his solution to the 5 & 3 gallon jug problem (how to get 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug). We completed our PBIS activity of problem solving conflict situations in school.
I talked with each group and answered questions from the Knowledge Search. Students had time to discuss their summer packets. We completed our PBIS task of bus expectations and looked at slogans by various companies that applied to learning mathematics. Students were challenged to think of their slogan for he 2014 - 15 school year.
We also acted out the counterfeit money problem from yesterday. Thanks to our actors! Students also had almost 20 minutes to complete the Knowledge Search Tonight's homework: How do you fill a 5 gallon jug with exactly 4 gallons of water given only 2 containers: a 5 gallon jug and a 3 gallon jug? Complete your summer packet. We completed the given PBIS activities for each class, ours was problem solving. We also went over class expectations, a quick get to you know activity, and the counterfeit problem. Students were reminded of the summer packet, and extras were available to students
