We went over the 2 piecewise functions students had for homework. Then they had time to write the piecewise functions for 2 given graphs. They checked with their neighbors on the reasonableness of the graphs. We also completed and went over 5 review questions. Students received their quizzes back from Friday. Re-quiz for the parent graphs will be Wednesday from those scoring 2 or lower.
We did review the unit circle and the hand trick for knowing the sine and cosine of special angles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE6dmczMc68 HW: Complete today's worksheet writing piecewise functions (7 - 12) and WS Rates of Change (1 - 6) Students completed their 2 part quiz. We did a quick review of piece wise functions. HW: complete the WS piece wise functions Today we did a quick review of transformations (in section P.3). Then students completed a 10 question review that we went over in class. 2/3 of the class had a quick oral quiz on identifying parent functions. I'll get the other 1/3 tomorrow.
We used the last part of class to go over questions from P.3. Students also received a 3 question P.3 "self" quiz. HW: Complete all of P.3 and be ready for quiz on P.3 tomorrow. You will have 2 parts (non-calculator identifying parent functions & their equations; calculator evaluating function, composite functions, transformations, domain & range) Students started with a 10 question review. We went over this in class. Then we completed a review of domain and range of a given function or a given graph. Students also received their quizzes back and we went over questions 1 & 3 (the most missed).
Homework from week 1 (Knowledge Search WS, P.1 & P.2) was collected. HW: Complete book assignment P.3 Students used the class time to complete their Star Math Testing. After they were finished they had time to complete their quiz from yesterday.
Homework: Start on assignment P.3 Students completed warm-up problems on evaluating function. Then we completed 4 examples that used composition of functions. Students were also given access to the electronic book & electronic assignments on www.webassign.net .
Username: last name.first name Institution: streamwood.il Password: sabres Enter your access code. Students completed the first half of their quiz today and will complete it tomorrow. Tomorrow's class will be in computer lab D12C. HW: Complete book assignment P.1 & P.2 (you may want to start P.3). Students were given information on joining remind. Details are on the AP Calc page.
Students completed a review of P.1 & P.2 (4 questions each) and we went over the questions in class. Students had the last 10 - 15 minutes to complete any work from P.1 & P.2. HW: Quiz P.1 & P.2 is Monday, 8/24. Complete all of book assignments P.1 & P.2 by then. Students were given a company's slogan and asked to identify the company. The slogans were picked because they serve as good slogans for learning mathematics. Students were asked to write their own slogan for the school year.
Then we went over writing the equation of a line. We reviewed point-slope form as well. HW: Complete book assignment P.2 by the end of class on Friday (8/21). Bring your books tomorrow as you will have some class time to work. Students received their calculus books today. We completed the parent function worksheet and did a quick review of x and y intercepts. We also reviewed the 3 algebraic symmetry tests and completed 5 practice problems in class.
Students also received an assignment sheet for chapter P. HW: Complete book assignment P.1 on your assignment sheet We came up with classroom rules for the year. Students were given 12 minutes to complete the Knowledge Search worksheet. This was collected. Then students worked with a partner on the Name the Parent Function Worksheet. We went over about the first half of the sheet.
