HW: Complete WS Factoring Polynomials over the Real Numbers (1 - 16).
We played 2 Kahoot games that reviewed 5 factoring methods: sum & difference of cubes, GCF, trinomials (both with a = 1 and a not = 1) and difference of squares. Then students had time to complete the rest of the WS Factoring Polynomials over the Real Numbers (1 - 16).

Students were given an SAT warm-up question to complete and filled out the corresponding google form.
Students completed 5 - 7 on the factors and zeros worksheet. Then we completed a couple problems from the front side (Kuta Analyzing & Solving Polynomial Equations). We worked out x^3 - 1 = 0 by first factoring it with the difference of cubes formula. Then we found the zeros by using the quadratic formula on the remaining trinomial. Lastly, we reviewed factoring trinomials where a is not 1 and not a GCF. This used the box method and we completed about 6 problems together. HW: Complete 1 - 8 on the front side and finish 1 - 10 on the back of WS Factoring Polynomials Over Real Numbers. Students named the zeros given a function in factored form. We did 4 of these in class and checked them. Students were reminded that the square root of -1 is i. We went over questions from WS 5-3 and completed #14 together. We also started the sum/difference of cubes pun worksheet, completing the first couple of rows together.
HW: Complete the front side of the worksheet Kuta Analyzing & Solving Polynomial Equations & complete the sum/differnce of cubes pun worksheet. Students used desmos.com to graph y = x^4 - x^2 - 12. Then we looked at a factored form and saw that the graphs were identical. We noticed that without all the factors in place, the graphs will not be the same. Then we complete our notes on factoring the sum & difference of cubes. We did 5 examples together.

Do not solve! Students were given the Desmos code for Factoring Practice (from Tuesday's work) and were asked to complete this activity. Students also answered 1 - 3 on Test Prep 5-2. We went over this in class and WS 5-2 was collected.
We reviewed how to factor a polynomial of 4 terms using the box method (did 3 examples together). Then we looked at factoring quartic trinomials. These were quadratic-like and we used a similar process to factoring quadratic trinomials. Students were asked to complete the PSAT Math Reflection form. This took about 15 - 20 minutes.
Then we went over the conclusions from yesterday's desmos activity. Lastly, we completed 5 questions together from WS 5-2 which used factoring, finding the zeros from factored form and writing the equation given the functions zeros. This can be confirmed by graphing the original polynomial and then looking at its x-intercepts. These are the real zeros! Due to me being out sick, students worked on the Desmos activity: Polynomial Equation Challenges. Students should complete this in class. If it is not done in class, it should be completed by tomorrow, 2/20.
Due to me being out sick, students worked on the Desmos activity: Factoring Practice. This uses the skills that we reviewed with the Circuit Training - factoring, from last Friday. Students should complete this in class. If it is not done in class, it should be completed by 2/20.
Please turn in the Circuit Training - factoring. Students used their valentine to find a partner to work with on the 1- 9 match up from WS 5.1 Vocab Support. Students used their prior knowledge to match the equation with the degree. Then they matched the polynomial by the number of terms (monomial, binomial, & trinomial). Then we completed the last 5 classification problems together.
Second, we worked on Circuit Training - Factoring. We reviewed many factoring techniques together from first semester. Students worked on this the rest of the class period. Some students have their scores for Test #2. The rest will be in over the weekend. HW: Circuit Training - Factoring. Retake for test #2 should be completed by 3/6. |
