We started by going over Exit ticket #4. We did each of the 4 problems together. Students then completed their 7 question Quiz 4.5. Students in 3rd hour completed the Student Behavior Matrix review using Kahoot.
5th hour started to work on the review packet. HW: Complete your graphing packets from Wednesday (Graphing in Factored Form) & Thursday (WS: Graphing Quadratic Functions in Intercept Form) . These will be collected tomorrow. Test will be on Tuesday, October 4th. We completed the first 2 problems together of today's worksheet, where students are graphing a quadratic equation that is in intercept form. Students had the rest of class to complete the worksheet. Students were also given a 4 question exit ticket (#4) on finding the x-intercepts by factoring. (5th hour will get theirs tomorrow.)
HW: Quiz 4.5 is tomorrow, finding zeros of a function by factoring. Please turn in WS 4.4, 4.5 & the puzzle (mountain climbing riddle). Complete today's worksheet on graphing quadratics in intercept form. Skip 7 - 9. Students were given 45 minutes of class time to complete the graphing quadratics by using intercept form activity with their tablemates. We did check the first 2 pages together in class.

HW: Complete the activity packet from today. Turn in WS 4.5 and any missing work from 4.4 - 4.5. Students received back their quizzes from last Friday. We went over many of the 9 problems. We also went over the front side of WS 4.5. We looked at #1 and asked what if the problem were changed to x^2 - x - 3 = 0, how could be solve it. Since this does not factor, we found that we could still graph it and find where the parabola intersects the x-axis (y = 0). We showed how to find the intersection on the TI-Nspire calculators and did 3-4 examples together.
HW: Complete WS 4.5, all should be done and it will be collected tomorrow, 9/27. Students were given a 4 question entrance slip. They had 6 minutes to complete it with their tablemates. Then we went over all 4 questions in class. We also went over any remaining questions on WS 4.4. This was collected. Students used the last 15 - 20 minutes to complete their Quiz 4.4.
HW: WS 4.4 should be turned in as well as the WS Mountain climbing puzzle (1 - 10 used the box method). WS 4.5 should have the front side done. Enjoy the weekend! Students started with an entrance slip, where they factored 4 polynomials. Then we completed our 4.5 notes together. We were able to change a standard form quadratic into factored form. We found the roots (or zeros) of the function by using the zero product property.
Students had about 10 minutes to work on their own - completing WS 4.4, the puzzle worksheets or today's homework. Use the links for additional practice/help https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/polynomial-and-rational/quad_factoring/v/example-1-solving-a-quadratic-equation-by-factoring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDe-1lGeS0U http://www.purplemath.com/modules/solvquad.htm http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/ate3/quadlesson2.htm HW: Quiz 4.4 (factoring techniques) is tomorrow, 9/23. Complete WS 4.4 and turn it in. For today's homework, please complete the front side of WS 4.5. At the start of class, students were given 5 - 7 minutes to work with their table partners on the factoring decoding puzzle. Then we looked at using the guess and check method to find a value between 0 - 10 where f(x) = x^2 - 7x - 18 would equal 0. Students found that when x = 9, f(9) = 0. This raised the question if there was a more efficient way and if there were any other zeros, besides 9. We decided to look at the graph of f(x) = x^2 - 7x - 18 using desmos.
Key point: a zero of a function is the value that makes the output of the function 0. Graphically, the real zeros of a function are the x-intercepts. We looked at f(x) = x^2 - 7x - 18 graphically and found the other x-intercept was -2. Which told us f(-2) = 0. Then we noticed that if we factored f(x) = x^2 - 7x - 18, we'd have f(x) = (x + 2)(x - 9). Using the zero product property we could find the zeros by solving x = 2 = 0 or x - 9 = 0. We completed the first 2 pages of the 4.5 notes. HW: Complete the factoring decoding puzzle that was started in class. Complete WS 4.4 (both sides) and WS Mountain climbing puzzle (1 - 10; given yesterday). Turn these in tomorrow. Tomorrow, bring your book to class. Complete page 229 9 - 16. Students were shown the video: teach me how to factor. They worked with their table partners to find matches for the 16 cards. After students completed the activity, they used the rest of class to work on a worksheet that reviewed the box (or guess & check) method.
HW: Complete WS 4.4 (back side) and today's puzzle worksheet (1 - 10) We reviewed our work from last Friday on factoring a trinomial. We also reviewed techniques of greatest common factor, difference of squares, perfect squares. We also did a couple problems together that used the Box method.
