Students used the class to work collaboratively on creating 4 quadratic graphs from intercept form.

Students had time to complete the last 2 graphs on the sheet and they checked their work in class. Then students worked on matching 12 intercept form equations with 12 graphs.

This and any missing work was collected. Students have their notes on graphing quadratics using intercept form in their google classroom. We were reminded that a y-intercept can be found by letting x = 0. We completed the first problem on the WS 4.5 Graphing Quadratics in Intercept Form.

Then students completed 1 - 6 on the WS 4.2 Test Prep. We also checked these together. Then students had about 20 minutes for their quiz on standard form. Afterwards, we started by playing Kahoot to review using standard form of a quadratic. Then we collected the WS 4.2 (form K). We showed how to check the 6 graphs from yesterday's homework using desmos.com . We checked the first one together. Students used the rest of class to work on WS 4.2 Form G as review for their quiz tomorrow on standard form.

Students worked well together. Most groups completed their work today and those that did not will complete this group activity tomorrow.

Then we completed our notes on graphing a parabola in standard form. We did 3 examples together. It is important to find the vertex using the formula x = -b/(2a) and then subbing in to get the corresponding y-value. The "c" is the y-intercept and we used the axis of symmetry to help generate more points.

HW: Complete WS 4.2 1 - 14 all. ]]><![CDATA[Using standard form of a quadratic]]>Tue, 11 Sep 2018 01:05:25 GMThttp://mrsseverson.weebly.com/algebra-2-blog/using-standard-form-of-a-quadraticStudents were given back their first test from last Friday. Students needing additional help and who wish to reassess, please make arrangements as soon as possible. Reassessments must be completed by September 25th. Then we used Cornell notes to discuss standard form of a quadratic. We found the vertex by using x = -b/(2a), axis of symmetry, the y-intercept (sub in x =0) and converted the quadratic from standard form into vertex form. We graphed both of these forms and found that the graphs were identical.

Students turned in any missing work. Students were shown how to access the study guide answer key on google classroom (under the Stream tab). We used the rest of class to go over questions on the study guide.

HW: Complete any missing or incomplete work, finish the study guide for test 1. Your first test is tomorrow, 9/7. ]]>
