HW: Complete book 4.8 & turn in any missing work. Quiz 4.8 on complex number operations is tomorrow, 11/1.
Students completed an 8 question entrance slip. We went over this together. Then students had time to complete book 4.8 (we also added problems 48 - 54 even & 73 - 78). Students had at least 25 minutes to work on completing this and WS 4.8 Test Prep. We went over WS 4.8 Test Prep at the end of class & collected it (other side is complex number maze).

We reviewed our work from last Wednesday and collected WS 4.8 Operation with Complex Numbers. Then we completed our 4.8 notes which solved quadratic equations by using quadratic formula and then simplifying it with complex numbers. We also showed how we could factor the sum of squares as well as isolated the x^2 as a possible method to solve a quadratic equation.

Then students had the last 30 minutes to work on their complex number maze and their review WS 4.8 Operations with Complex Numbers. WS 4.5/4.7 Test Prep was collected.
HW: Complete the WS Complex Number Maze and WS 4.8 Operations with Complex Numbers. Students completed warm-up problems on powers of i and adding or subtracting complex numbers. We checked these in class.
Then we completed our 4.8 notes and went over about 6 examples of multiplying complex numbers. Then students completed 3g - k on the warm-up sheet. Students learned how to write the square root of a negative number using i. We calculated powers of i and were able to add and subtract complex numbers by combining the like terms (real parts and imaginary parts).

Then we went over #6 from the WS Person Puzzle: Grace Hopper. 3rd hour was able to play a quick Kahoot game and both classes completed their Quiz 4.7.
HW: Complete WS Person Puzzle: Grace Hopper & turn in any missing work. Students checked their wok on the WS 4.7. We did the application problems with together. Students were given a WS person puzzle on Grace Hopper. Please complete 1 - 6 tonight. Quiz 4.7 on the quadratic formula and discriminant is tomorrow.
Students completed 10 problems that involved simplifying an expression after using the quadratic formula. Students also turned in book 4.7. We also discussed how the quadratic formula can be used for every quadratic equation; however, factoring can be more effecient.
HW: Complete 1 - 8 on WS 4.7 Practice, complete WS 4.7 day 2. Students used about 35 minutes of class to work on completing the book 4.7 assignment. I helped students who had questions. Then we discussed how the discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) will tell the number of real solutions (or x-intercepts) for a quadratic function. Use the video links for review or practice.

Students who want to reassess must complete the process by November 1st. We completed 5 examples in our 4.7 notes and also showed how to check our answers by using the store (memory) feature on the calculator.
