We went over questions from yesterday's review assignment (page 353). Then we did a quick investigation of the cost of a 30 second Super Bowl commercial. We looked at linear, quadratic and exponential models and found that the exponential model was the best to predict next year's cost of a 30 second Super Bowl commercial.
HW: Test is tomorrow 5.4 - 5.9 (not 5.5 or 5.7). Turn in any missing work & complete your 2 electronic assignments on http://www.tenmarks.com . Today we collected WS 5.9 from yesterday. Students were given a TI-Nspire calculator and together we completed thorugh #6 on the Application of Polynomials activity. Students are to complete this and turn it in tomorrow.
Homework: Complete Application of Polynomials activity AND page 353 4, 5, 7 - 17, 20 - 23 (will be collected on Friday) Complete your 2 assignments on www.tenmarks.com if you have not done so. Test is this Friday. We went over the worksheet students received last Friday, where they had to analyze the gas prices and minimum wages for various decades. We discussed the challenges of get a good fitting regression equation. We found that even though the correlation coefficient (r-value) was higher for the quartic model the cubic graph correctly modeled the trend after the year 2010. We discussed the 8 questions on the back of the first page.
Students also received their quizzes from last Friday. We will discuss the back page tomorrow in class. HW: Students are to complete the packet and may choose to turn in a printed out answer rather than hand written. Also complete your electronic assignment on www.tenmarks.com. Students had 30 minutes to complete their 5.4/5.6 quiz. Then they received a 2-page packet on the cost of gasoline and minimum wage from 1950 - 2010. Students are to complete the first page, front and back.
HW: Students are to complete the first page, front and back. Students used the class period to complete the Chicago Chase Activity which used skills of identifying independent and dependent variables, making sense of data, and making a conjecture. This was collected at the end of class.
Students were given their own sign on information for www.tenmarks.com and were shown how to access it. HW: Complete your first electronic assignment on www.tenmarks.com . Our first quiz is tomorrow on 5.4 and 5.6 only. We completed WS 5.8 using the TI-Nspire graphing calculators. Some students moved on to start the next activity. Our first quiz of the semester will be Friday, January 23rd.
HW: None if you completed and turned in WS 5.8. Today we went over any questions from the Review packet 5.4/5.6. This was collected. We used our data entry and analysis skills with the TI-Nspire to look at data and make a choice about which polynomial model (linear, quadratic, cubic or quartic) would fit the model. We completed about 1/2 of WS 5.8. We will finish the rest tomorrow in class.
HW: None if you completed and turned in the Review packet 5.4/5.6. Today we went over questions from WS 5.6 and collected it. Students had about 40 minutes to work on the Review packet 5.4/5.6. This will be collected on Tuesday, January 20th.
