HW: Enjoy the Powder Puff game!
Students completed a 2 problem review where they found the vertex, axis of symmetry, min or max value, y-intercept, and then created a quick graph. Students had 20 - 25 minutes to complete the quiz 4.1 - 4.2.

Students used the TI-Nspire to be able to write the equation of the parabola in vertex form for the path of the angry bird. We did a couple of problems together. Students used the last 20 minutes to work on their own,
HW: Be prepared for Quiz 4.1 - 4.2 tomorrow (I can: use vertex and standard form of a quadratic to find the vertex, axis of symmetry, y-intercept, min or max value, domain and range. I can create an accurate graph of a parabola in either vertex form or standard form.) Use the link below for review http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/parabola/standard-and-vertex-form.php Students completed a warm-up question where they were given a quadratic in standard form and asked to find the vertex, axis of symmetry, y-intercept, min or max value, domain & range. Then we went over WS 4.1 Think of a Plan. We were able to find the dimension of a rectangle w/ perimeter of 36 feet that would provide the most area.
HW: Complete the back of the 4.2 vocab sheet (Think of a Plan from 4.2). Quiz 4.1 - 4.2 will be on Wednesday, 9/30. Students were given the class time (& graph paper too) to complete WS 4.2 Practice. Both worksheets in the 4.2 packet will be collected on Monday, 9/28.
HW: Complete WS 4.2 Practice We completed our last notes from section 4.2 We reviewed how to find a vertex, axis of symmetry, the y-intercept and write the quadratic in vertex form.
HW: Complete WS 4.1/4.2 Test Prep. We will do WS 4.2 Practice tomorrow in class. Students received guided Cornell notes on graphing a parabola in standard form. It is important to find the vertex using the formula x = -b/(2a) and then subbing in to get the corresponding y-value. The "c" is the y-intercept and we used the axis of symmetry to help generate more points.
HW: WS 4.2 vocab and try to complete the back side We did a quick review of finding the vertex, axis of symmetry, min/max value, domain & range, x & y intercepts if given an equation in vertex form. Then were were able to write the equation of the quadratic in vertex form if were were given the vertex and a point. We did 3 examples together in class.
HW: Complete 21 - 24 on WS 4.1 Practice, so 1 - 24 should be completed on WS 4.1. We used https://www.desmos.com/calculator to verify the graphs we made on WS Practice 4.1 (1 - 9).
We mentioned there are 2 key pieces of information in graphing the parabola. First is to identify the vertex and then to identify any transformations. Then we talked about vertex form and how to find the vertex and the axis of symmetry. We also review the transformations that occurred by the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2. We briefly talked about the domain and range of a quadratic in vertex form and were able to identify the maximum or minimum value. Students turned in their WS Chapter 2 Practice Test and any missing work. They completed their chapter 2 test.
HW: Complete your electronic assignments on www.tenmark.com if you have not yet done so. Enjoy the weekend! Students completed the 9 question vocabulary match on the 4.1 WS packet. Then we talked about vertex form and how to find the vertex, the axis of symmetry, & the x and y-intercepts. We also review the transformations that occurred by the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2.
Use the video link for help/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QMoNY6FzvM HW: Complete your assignments on www.tenmarks.com Your test is tomorrow, 9/18 on 2.3 - 2.7. Any missing work is due by then. Complete WS 4.1 Practice 4 - 9 ONLY naming the translation & 13 - 15 name the vertex and axis of symmetry. |
