Students played a quick 10 question Kahoot to review the a, h, k and their effects. Students also had time to complete the Desmos: Function Transformations. Solutions were posted to their Study Guide for Test #1 in the Stream of their google classroom. I also answered students' questions from the study guide.
HW: Complete any missing work and be prepared for your first test tomorrow! Students completed a which one doesn't belong using 4 graphs. Students also worked on their Desmos: Match My Parabola, as we did a couple of slides together with our focus being on determining the "a" value.
Students who completed that moved on to the Desmos review: Function Transformations. Students also received a study guide. Turn in WS Kuta - 8 graphs and their key features worksheets. HW: Complete the study guide first and then work on any remaining Desmos slides. Students completed a 4 question entrance slip that we checked in class. We also looked at a Which One Doesn't Belong given 4 parabolas. We discussed why each one may not belong with the others. Then we completed the last page of our original notes, reviewing graphing parabolas and writing the equation of a given parabola or its vertex and point on it.
Students used the last 10 - 15 minutes of class to work on their Desmos activity from yesterday. HW: Complete the 8 graphs (3 - 8, 11 & 12) along with the characteristic sheet. Students completed a 6 question warm-up reviewing the translations of a parabola and we also went over 1 - 7 on the 4.2 vocab support page. Then we went over their first quiz and addressed common errors. Lastly, students used the Desmos Activity: Match My Parabola to write a quadratic in vertex form given the vertex and at least 1 other point.

Our first test is this Friday, 8/30. Students completed a 4 question MC warm-up & we checked it in class. We also went over questions from WS 4.1. We did #17 together as well as #23 (an additional problem). Students had 20 minutes to complete Quiz #1.
HW: Complete WS 4.1. Students completed the google transformations quiz in our google classroom.
We played a Kahoot game which reviewed transformations of the absolute value function. Finally, we examined the transformations that occurred with the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2, looking at the effects of a, h and k on our parabola, making connections to what we already learned from transformations with absolute value functions. Also, we talked about the range of the function being tied to the "k" value. We completed 3 graphs together on the WS 4.1 Reteaching. First quiz is tomorrow over transformations and graphing absolute value functions. Students completed a 6 question warm-up that we went over in class, which reviewed the effects a, h, and k. We went over questions from the front side of WS 2.7 and then used the rest of class to work on the desmos absolute value graph activity. We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k) and the "a" value.
Once students completed the desmos activity they moved on to the rest of the WS 2.7. Student completed a 6 question warm-up on the effects of h and k. We checked this in class.
We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k) and completed our Desmos investigation using the "a" value. We also checked the front side of the attached worksheet. We completed a few of these together. Students used their chromebooks to sign into google classroom. Students were introduced to the information under the Classwork tab. We went over questions from the WS Circuit Training and collected it.
For the rest of the class, students worked on investigating transformations of the absolute value function, y = |x| and y = x^2. Students were able to test their own values and insert sliders for h and k and then notice how these affected the parent function. HW: Complete the first 6 problems using the given graphs of the attached worksheet. |
