Students received their quizzes back from Friday. We went over a few more problems with completing the square method and quadratic formula. Students had time to complete their book 4.7 assignment and then to work on a short book review for their chapter 4 test.
HW: Book review, test on 4.1, 4.2, 4.4 - 4.7 is tomorrow, 11/25. We started class by completing quiz 4.6. Then we used the completing the square method to derive the quadratic formula to solve any quadratic equation. We also sang a song to help us memorize the quadratic formula.
HW: Book 4.7 is due at the end of class Monday, 11/24. We did a quick review of completing the square method. Then 5 groups presented their problems to the class.
HW: Quiz 4.6 is tomorrow. We used the first half of class to review solving a quadratic by factoring. Then we completed the WS 4.6 Test Prep. We did review the completing the square technique as we worked about 4 problems together.
Students then had time to complete the book 4.6 assignment if they were not taking the 4.4/4.5 Re-Quiz. HW: Be ready for to present your group problem from WS 4.5 Enrichment. Presentations should be no longer than 5 minutes. We looked at various problem and found that if we could create a perfect square with the variable side we could use the square root property to solve the equation. We needed to have a 1x^2 and then get the proper c value by taking half of b and then squaring it.

HW: Book page 237 - 240 15 - 23, 31 - 43, 53 - 55, 63, 65, 87 - 89 Re-Quiz 4.4/4.5 is tomorrow. Students received their quizzes back from last Friday. We talked about opportunities for assistance and we went over 4 problems together. Students who are at scores of 2 or lower will requiz on Wednesday, 11/19.
We went through the first half of section 4.6 and discussed how to solve a quadratic equation if one side is a perfect square. We found the need for two cases, just like our absolute value problems. We were also able to find a missing c value given 1x^2 + bx + c, by talking half the b value and then squaring it. HW: Page 237 15 - 23, groups will present their problem on Wednesday, 11/19. We went over any questions on WS 4.5 and it was turned in. Then each table was assigned a problem to present to the class and another to critique. So each table will do 2 of the 7 problems on the worksheet 4.5 (enrichment). Groups worked together for about 20 minutes.
Presentations will begin on Monday, 11/17. Students had 20 minutes to complete quiz 4.4 - 4.5. HW: Do your 2 problems from worksheet 4.5 (enrichment). Students used the graphing calculators to solve a quadratic equation. This is a method that will work for any quadratic equation. We completed about 4 examples together and then students had about 25 minutes to complete WS 4.5 (back side) in class and do page 231 59 - 66 as review for their quiz on 4.4/4.5 (factoring method only).
HW: WS 4.5 and page 231 59 - 66. Quiz 4.4/4.5 is tomorrow, 11/14. Today we used our factoring skills and the zero product property to solve a quadratic equation. We worked through 5 examples together in class. We also went over questions from yesterday's worksheet and I collected both WS 4.4 and the WS 4.4 Standardized Test Prep.
HW: Complete the front side only of WS 4.5. |
