Students completed a 4 question warm-up on solving 4 rational equations. Students presented these problems on the board. Students also received their quiz 8.1 - 8.2 back. We went over common errors on #4 and #8. We also discussed questions on the WS Person Puzzle. Lastly, we went over questions on the odds from the review packet.
HW: Complete the odds in the review packet, complete the WS Person Puzzle. Test over 8.1, 8.2, 8.6 is tomorrow, 3/23. We started by working through the 8.6 Test Prep Questions. We discussed most of the 8 problems. Students had time to complete their Quiz 8.1 - 8.2. Afterwards, students used the time to complete the 8.6 Test Prep (1 - 8) and the WS Person Puzzle (1 - 8). Students also picked up a review. We are going to be doing all the odd problems. Please get at least 8 odd problems done tonight.
HW: WS 8.6 Test Prep, Person Puzzle & start on the review packet (odds only). We went over WS 8.2 Test Prep in class and then collected it. We also went over questions from WS 8.2 packet and collected that as well. Then we looked at how we could solve rational equations.
Algebraically, we used the cross product property to solve our proportions. If our rational equation was not in the form of a proportion, we looked for common denominators or created common denominators to quickly make a proportion. Students can check their answers using the "store" feature on the graphing calculator to make checking easier. We completed 3 examples together. Students will have 5 minutes to complete it tomorrow. HW: Complete 1 - 6 on page 3 of the 8.6 packet (6th hour completes 1 - 4 & 1 - 4 on the WS Person Puzzle). We reviewed the graph of the inverse function xy = k (or y = k/x) and then looked at how the graph was transformed vertically (x - h) and horizontally (+ or -k). We used desmos.com to animate how the graph moved with the vertical asymptote at x = h and horizontal asymptote at y = k. We completed the rest of the WS 8.2 reteaching and went over 1 - 3 & 5 on the WS 8.2 Practice.

Quiz 8.1 - 8.2 is tomorrow, 3/20. We completed the 8.1 Test Prep which lead us into the graph of an inverse function. We discussed how to get points on the graph and that the graph would be in 2 quadrants (I & III or II & IV). We used desmos to make the graph of xy = 12 and discussed differences with the graph of xy = -12. We were able to see a reflection over the x -axis.
We also completed 2 more graphs together on WS 8.2 reteaching. HW: Complete WS 8.2 reteaching 1 - 3, the WS 8.2 vocab support & WS 8.2 1 - 4. We discussed the difference between inverse variation (xy = k) and direct variation (y/x = k or y = kx). We also used demos to look at the graph of an inverse variation. We noted the graph was not connected and in only 2 of the 4 quadrants. The graph of a direct variation is a line going through the origin.

We went over some questions from the review and then students completed their third summative quiz for chapter 7.
As a warm-up, students completed 4 questions which reviewed 7.6. We checked these in class. Then we completed #17 & #18 together from WS 7.5 (1 - 18). This was collected. Students used the last 10 - 15 minutes to work on another take home quiz 7.5 - 7.6. This should help prepare them for their final summative quiz tomorrow. Answers were given to the take home quiz at the end of class.
HW: Summative quiz 7.5 - 7.6 is tomorrow. Students completed 4 questions as a warm-up and their row presented these problems to the class. Students also received their DMA from last Friday. We had lots of good scores - keep up the good work!
Students received a review sheet for their final summative quiz which will be on Wednesday, 3/14. HW: You will have a practice quiz 7.5 - 7.6 tomorrow to prepare you for your final summative quiz on Wednesday, 3/14. Complete the review sheet. |
