HW: Enjoy Labor Day Weekend!

Due to a copying error, students received the last page of the study guide. We went over it in class and students have the answer key posted in their Stream of google classroom. Students also had time to work on the Desmos activity: match my parabola.
HW: Complete the study guide and any missing work. Test 1 is tomorrow! Students completed 4.1 Test Prep (4 multiple choice questions using vertex form of a parabola). Then students worked on the review. Looks like there was a copying error and the study guide is missing the last page. I will get that to you tomorrow. Students also received their first quiz back and we went over it. Lastly, students played a quick Kahoot on using the vertex form of a parabola.
HW: Complete the Study Guide. Our first test is this Friday. Students completed the 1/2 sheet on absolute value functions and we checked the 4 questions in class. Then students checked their 4 graphs (9 - 12) from yesterday. We checked through the WS 4.1 and spent time on writing the equation of a parabola from a given graph. Sometimes we need to substitute in the vertex and the given point in order to find the "a" value.
Students used the rest of class for their quiz. HW: Complete today's WS 4.1 (1 - 13) Students completed a 4 question warm up on transformation and we checked that in class. Student received a graphing parabolas worksheet, where we completed 8 problems together. The y-intercept can be found by subbing in x = 0. The axis of symmetry is always x = h.
Then we looked at questions on WS 4.1, reminding students that the domain is the input (all reals for our parabolas and abs. value functions). HW: Complete graphs 9 - 12 and WS 4.1. First quiz is tomorrow at the end of class. Students completed the 5 question entrance slip in our google classroom. Then using what they learned about h and k, students completed 4 - 9 on WS 4.1. We played a Kahoot game which reviewed transformations of the absolute value function.
Finally, we examined the transformations that occurred with the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2, looking at the effects of a, h and k on our parabola, making connections to what we already learned from transformations with absolute value functions. Also, we talked about the domain and range of the function. Then we used https://www.desmos.com/calculator to verify the vertex and graphs we made. Use the link for review/practice https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/quadratics/solving_graphing_quadratics/v/graphing-a-parabola-in-vertex-form https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y99lNRqLjBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpTvNFXvj38 (just first 8 minutes) HW: Students are to complete the front side of WS 4.1. We went over selected problems on WS 2.7 & answered questions. Then students paired up and matched a verbal description of the translation of y = |x| and its equation. There were 18 graphs to match with the description and equation. Lastly, students were challenged with transforming the absolute value equation(s) in the desmos marbleslides activity.
HW: Turn in WS 2.7 and work on the marbleslides activity. Students completed the desmos absolute value graph activity from yesterday. We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k) and the "a" value.
Once students completed the desmos activity they moved on to WS 2.7. We completed a few of these together. Use the links below for extra practice or help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-XZCNqqrHk https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/absolute-value-equations-functions/graphs-of-absolute-value-functions/v/shifting-absolute-value-graphs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4ytw_6EPw0 HW: WS 2.7 (skip the range questions for now). Students used their chromebooks to sign into google classroom. Students were introduced to the information under the Classwork tab. We went over questions from the WS Circuit Training and collected it.
For the rest of the class, students worked on investigating transformations of the absolute value function, y = |x|. HW: Complete the desmos activty: absolute value graphs. Students received the course syllabus and we went over it together. Then students were asked to think of what will be their slogan for this year. Students were asked to name the company or item with the given slogans. All slogans could be used for school or our math class.
Lastly, students received a worksheet that reviewed solving linear equations. Students worked on this in class and are to complete it for tomorrow. HW: WS Circuit Training - linear equations. |
