HW: Turn in any missing work.
Students worked on the DiscoveryEducation Quiz: Complex Numbers. This should be completed. 5th hour took their quiz #6 today; 4th hour will take it tomorrow as many were out on a field trip. Students then worked on a couple of Halloween challenges.

Students received their test #3 back and we discussed common errors. Those wishing to retake must complete the process by 11/14. We used our techniques for solving quadratic equations again; however, these equations had complex solutions. We showed how to check this with our graphing calculators.
We also showed how to factor the sum of squares using complex numbers. HW: Complete WS 4.8 Entrance Slip #2 and DiscoveryEducation Quiz Complex Numbers. Quiz on Complex Numbers is tomorrow, 10/31. 4th hour used 25 minutes to finish their Test #3. 5th hour played 2 Kahoot games to review adding, subtracting, and multiplying with complex numbers. Both classes had a review worksheet on operations with complex numbers. We discussed conjugates and how their product is a positive real number.
HW: Complete WS 4.8 Operations with Complex Numbers & your Google Quiz (in your google classroom) on complex numbers. Students in 4th hour will have 25 minutes to complete their test on Monday, 10/29, due to us having a fire alarm. 5th hour completed their test. The fastball lab was also turned in. This is a summative assessment and will impact your grade.
Enjoy the 4 day weekend! Students looked over their review for test #3 and compared it with the answer key. We went over problems from all pages (#11 should have a +48 instead of - 48). We went through application problems and decided whether we needed to solve an equation or just use the discriminant (asks if something ever happened or is possible) to answer the question. Please complete the DiscoveryEducation Quiz on Solving Quadratics.
HW: Complete the review and any missing work. Test #3 is tomorrow. Your Fastball Lab is due tomorrow as well. Students had the entire class period to work on any of the following item: fastball lab, 10 question quiz on discoveryeducation.com, or the review packet for test #3.
HW: Complete the review for test #3. Test is on 10/24 and Fastball Lab is due on 10/24. Students used the class time to work on their Fastball Lab. We showed how to use the TI-Nspire to create a graph and a table of our equation in #8. This was done as a quick check and then we changed the increment on the table to 0.2.. Students copied the table of values on a separate sheet of paper and will use this to create their graph. This table is also used to check their answers in 10a - c.
Students were also instructed to complete a 10 question review "quiz" on solving quadratic equations. This is through DiscoveryEducation.com. HW: Complete the rest of the Fastball Lab. This is due 10/24. Test on solving quadratic equations and their applications will be this Wednesday, 10/24. Students completed the first page of this math lab. Students measured their initial height and calculated the hang time of their fastball. Luckily, we managed to do this even though it was a little cool Students will complete this tomorrow in class. This is a summative assessment and will be part of their grade.
HW: Complete 1 - 10. The fastball lab is due at the end of class on Wednesday, October 24th. Students completed about 5 warm-up questions on powers & operations with i. We went over WS Test Prep 4.8 1 - 6 and then did #9 together. We showed how to check our complex number solution by saving it in our calculator (TI-Nspire or graphing calculator). We collected this and the Person Puzzle. We also went over questions 6 - 8 on the Person Puzzle.
Lastly, we looked at the pattern with the powers of i by creating a table and rewriting the power with i, i^2, i^3, or i^4. We saw that we could rewrite this different ways and still have the same value. Students received a summary sheet of this in class and also in their google classroom. Use the video links for review or practice on the power of i https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhdZvfH6fGg https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/introduction-to-complex-numbers-algebra-2/the-imaginary-numbers-algebra-2/v/calculating-i-raised-to-arbitrary-exponents How did we get imaginary numbers? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T647CGsuOVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HrSG0fdxLY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9QOLrfcKNc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DThAoT3q2V4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65wYmy8Pf-Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5IG_6_zPDo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHvR8siIiD0 4th hour we reviewed how to use the square root method to solve the equations. HW: Complete the 1/2 sheet on operations with complex numbers. Students completed a 3 question warm-up and we went over this in class. We also reviewed the Complex Number Maze from yesterday. We also completed the last couple of questions from our notes on complex numbers. Students had about 15 minutes to complete the Quiz #5.
HW: Complete the complex number maze, back side 1 - 6 (test prep 4.8) & Person Puzzle - Yuri Gagarin. |
