Students had the first 30 minutes to complete the DE Complex Number Quiz from yesterday as well as the back of the 4.8 Entrance Slip #2. During the last 20 minutes, students completed the (paper) Quiz on Complex Numbers.
HW: Complete the DE Quiz Complex Numbers with Equations. Test will be next Tuesday, 11/5. Students had 10 minutes to complete the front side of entrance slip #2. Then we went over questions on the front side. Students used the last 25 minutes to work on their DiscoveryEducation Quiz on Complex Numbers.
HW: Complete the DE Quiz Complex Numbers and both sides of the Complex Numbers Entrance Slip #2. (Paper) Quiz on Complex Numbers is tomorrow, 10/30. Students started by playing an 11 question Kahoot on multiplying complex numbers. Then we completed the 8 questions on various powers of i (reviewing even powers of i and odd powers of i). Students had the rest of class to complete the rest of the WS Kuta Powers of i.
HW: WS Kuta Powers of i (complete both sides). Students had the first 10 - 12 minutes to work on a review of operations involving i (the back side of the Powers of i worksheet)
We collected this and the Person Puzzle. We also went over questions 6 - 8 on the Person Puzzle. Lastly, we looked at the pattern with the powers of i by creating a table and rewriting the power with i, i^2, i^3, or i^4. We saw that we could rewrite this different ways and still have the same value. We worked together to complete the front side of the Powers of i Worksheet. Use the video links for review or practice on the power of i https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhdZvfH6fGg https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/introduction-to-complex-numbers-algebra-2/the-imaginary-numbers-algebra-2/v/calculating-i-raised-to-arbitrary-exponents How did we get imaginary numbers? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T647CGsuOVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HrSG0fdxLY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9QOLrfcKNc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DThAoT3q2V4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65wYmy8Pf-Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5IG_6_zPDo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHvR8siIiD0 HW: Complete the Powers of i Worksheet (both sides) We went over the Complex Number Maze in class. Students had time to complete the back side - Test Prep, skipping 7 & 8. Then we worked out 3 more examples of multiplying three complex numbers together. Students were able to look over their Test #3. We did not go over problems as some students still need to take this test. Anyone wishing to retake must complete the retake process by November 6th.
Students used the last part of class to work on the Person Puzzle - Yuri Gagarin. HW: Complete Both sides of the Complex Number Maze & Person Puzzle - Yuri Gagarin. Students were given the first 20 minutes to complete and check their Fastball Lab. Then we started our notes on complex numbers. We looked at the definition of i, and addition, subtraction, and multiplication with complex numbers.

Students confirmed their work on #7 by graphing their equation in #8 (using desmos.com) and checking the x-intercept. Students were also shown how to create a table from the equation by hitting the gear icon and selecting the table icon. Students copied the table onto a separate sheet of paper and used that data to make the graph (on given graph paper). The rest of the questions should be answered.
This is the summative assessment that is due tomorrow, 10/22. HW: Fastball Lab due tomorrow! Students turned in their missing work and had the whole class period to complete Test 33.
HW: Complete through #7 on Fastball Lab. You can answer other questions, but do not make the chart or graph. We will do that part in class on Monday, 10/21. The Fastball Lab is due on Tuesday October 22nd. Students were able to check their work with the solutions of the Review for Test #3. We also went over questions in class as a whole group. We also looked at one more application problem and it's solution is posted in the Stream of your google classroom.
HW: Complete any missing work and be ready for Test #3, which is tomorrow. |
