HW: Turn in your WS Graphing Quadratics in Standard Form (1 - 6), WS 4.2 Form G and quiz tomorrow on standard form.
2nd hour was interrupted with a fire drill. Afterwards, we started by playing Kahoot to review using standard form of a quadratic. Then we collected the WS 4.2 (form K). We showed how to check the 6 graphs from yesterday's homework using desmos.com . We checked the first one together. Students used the rest of class to work on WS 4.2 Form G as review for their quiz tomorrow on standard form.

Students worked in groups of 3 and each were assigned specific tasks on 4 standard form equations. Students worked well together. Most groups completed their work today and those that did not will complete this group activity tomorrow.
HW: Complete the WS Graphing in Standard Form 1 - 6 on the back (front side is a worked out example) and do #16 on WS 4.2. Students checked over problems #1 & #10 on WS 4.2. Then we completed our notes on graphing a parabola in standard form. We did 3 examples together. It is important to find the vertex using the formula x = -b/(2a) and then subbing in to get the corresponding y-value. The "c" is the y-intercept and we used the axis of symmetry to help generate more points.

Students were given back their first test from last Friday. Students needing additional help and who wish to reassess, please make arrangements as soon as possible. Reassessments must be completed by September 25th. Then we used Cornell notes to discuss standard form of a quadratic. We found the vertex by using x = -b/(2a), axis of symmetry, the y-intercept (sub in x =0) and converted the quadratic from standard form into vertex form. We graphed both of these forms and found that the graphs were identical.

Students turned in any missing work. Enjoy the weekend! Students completed a 3 question warm-up on graphing a parabola, identifying its key features and naming transformations. Students were shown how to access the study guide answer key on google classroom (under the Stream tab). We used the rest of class to go over questions on the study guide.
HW: Complete any missing or incomplete work, finish the study guide for test 1. Your first test is tomorrow, 9/7. Students received their quizzes and we talked about common errors. We also completed the WS Quadratic Transformations by going over the last 6 graphs together. This packet was collected as well as the Worksheet Review 4.1 from last Friday.
Students were shown electronic resources in their google classroom, including the Discovery Techbook, which contains videos for extra help and practice. Students also received a study guide for their test this Friday, 9/7. HW: Complete the study guide and any missing work. Students completed WS 4.1 Test Prep 1 - 4 to review our work from last week. We checked this in class. Then students played a 10 question Kahoot review on vertex form of a parabola. Students then wrote the equation of a given parabola using the vertex and its steepness (slope for 1 unit away - the "a" value). Lastly, we identified the key features of the parabola such as vertex, axis of symmetry, min/max value, range, y-intercept, and described the transformations.
Students who needed to complete their quiz from last Friday had the last 10 minutes to wrap it up. HW: Complete Desmos Match My Parabola & WS Qaudratic Transformations 1 - 10. Turn in the review from last Friday, 8/31. Our first test will be this Friday, 9/7. |
