Both classes were given a Starburst candy and asked to determine its surface area. Then we asked what percent extra was used to create the flaps that hold the wrapper closed. We unwrapped the candy (and ate it - yumm!) and then measured and calculated the area of the wrapper. We found that the wrapper uses about 62% more than the surface area to make the flaps. We were surprised it was that much more!
