Students completed 1 - 3 on WS Writing the Equation of a Line Day 2 as a warm-up. Then we used the TI-Nspire to check our answers for 5 -7. In class, we completed all but 5 problems on the sheet.
We also listened to the GRAPH! song (link below). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BHzXItkByU HW: Complete all of today's worksheet and complete the day 1 WS if you have not yet done so. Test will be next week. We started class by doing a few review problems from our notes last week on graphing lines. Students received their quizzes back from last Friday.
We went over the front side of WS Writing the Equation of a Line (day 1) from last week. Students are to complete the back side for homework. HW: WS Writing the Equation of a Line (day 1) should be all done. Students completed a 6 question warm-up on slope of a given line. Then they graphed lines that were parallel to a given line through P(6, 1) and graphed perpendicular lines through a given line going through Q(-2, 4). We also wrote equations for 4 of these lines.
We watched the music video, "Graph." Click the Geometry with support tab above for the link. Students completed their quiz. HW: Complete today's WS Counting with Slope (both sides) and complete the front of yesterday's worksheet if you have not done so. Students started class by calculating the slope between 2 points. They did this at the boards with a partner. Then we collected WS Parallel & Perpendicular Lines Day 3. We completed most of our notes on writing the equation of a line. We focused on using slope-intercept form (y = mx + b). We found that if we can name the slope (m) and the y-intercept (b) we can write the equation of a line in the form y = mx + b.

We started the back side together.
HW: complete both sides of today's worksheet Slope quiz this Friday, 10/9. We started with a warm-up question on calculating the slope between 2 points. Then we went over yesterday's worksheet (slope day 2). Many students needed time in class to complete this.
Key points: parallel lines have the same slope and perpendicular lines have opposite reciprocal slopes. Use the video link below for help/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rew54K6mYUo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbd-wT0aMQ0 Music Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmincNsoFnw We completed the first page of our notes on writing an equation of a line in slope-intercept form. HW: Complete the 2 slope worksheets if you have not yet done so. We did a review of our work on slope from last Friday. We completed our class notes on slope and used the TI-Nspire calculators to investigate slope on their own by moving endpoints on a segment.
HW: Complete WS Slope Day 2 (both sides) We started by watching a short video (link below) to review slope.
https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-eighth-grade-math/cc-8th-linear-equations-functions/8th-slope/v/slope-of-a-line Then we did 5 examples on finding slope from a given line. We also saw how the slope of a horizontal line is zero while the slope of a vertical line is undefined. Student then had 30 minutes to complete the WS on Slope. HW: WS Slope (1 - 12) Students completed their test on angle relationships.
