Students received a second review sheet on surface area and volume. Students had time to work on it in class.

HW: Prepare for the final test on surface area and volume which is on Tuesday, May 2=4th during the regular class period.
We watched 2 short videos to review finding the volume of a sphere and volume of a cylinder. Students worked in groups to calculate the surface area and volume of the racquetball and the volume of its container. Then they calculated how much air would be in the container if it contained 2 racquetballs.

Today we looked at the last formula, which is the surface area of a sphere. We also went over #6, finding the surface area and volume of a triangular prism. Students were given a review sheet for the last test (on 5/24). I also had the opportunity to talk with each student about their grade.

Students were given a rectangular prism and were asked to measure the length, width, and height. Then they calculated the volume and surface area of the prism. Then we went over the formulas for the volume of a sphere and hemi-sphere.
HW: Complete the volume of a sphere and hemi-sphere on 1-8.

We put 3-d shapes into 2 categories, prisms and not prisms (cone, pyramid, hemisphere). We explained that the surface area of the box it the total area of all the sides (top & bottom included). Then we reviewed the volume of a box as length*width*height (or the area of the base * height of the box).
