HW: Complete any of the Halloween challenges.
Students completed 9 - 15 on the (Regents) Powers of i worksheet. We checked these in class. We played a Kahoot game that reviewed the powers of i. Lastly, students worked in pairs on the Costumer is Always Right - Halloween costume party match up.

Students worked on the warm-up on powers of i. We checked this together. We also went over the back side of yesterday's Powers of i Worksheet. We played an 8 question Kahoot game on multiplying complex numbers.
HW: Complete the Person Puzzle - Yuri Gagarin Students used the back side of yesterday's warm-up to review the work we did with conjugates. We checked these 6 questions in class.
Then we looked at the pattern with the powers of i by creating a circle (used the clock analogy) and rewriting the power with i, i^2, i^3, or i^4. We saw that we could rewrite this different ways and still have the same value. Students were able to look at the exponent (of i) and determine if it was a multiple of 4, then it had a value of 1. We stressed finding the correct placement on the circle for the even power and then moving forward or backwards from there. We checked this in class. We also completed the rest of our notes (13 - 18), focusing on the order of operations.
Students had the last 5 - 10 minutes to work on the back side of the maze (Test Prep 4.8). HW: Complete the Maze & the back - Test Prep 4.8 (skip 7 & 8). We started our notes on complex numbers. We looked at the definition of i, and addition, subtraction, and multiplication with complex numbers. We did about 16 examples together.

Students received their Test #3 back and those wishing to retake it must complete the process by November 8th. Students turned in missing work and completed Test #3 in class today.
Students completed a 4 question self-quiz on solving quadratic equations with complex solutions. Students also checked their review for Test #3. We also went over application problems together as a class.
HW: Complete your review, missing work - including your DiscoveryEducation Quadratics Quiz (details in IC, if you did not complete this in class). We worked through #7 and #10 on WS Kuta Quadratic Equations with Imaginary Solutions. Then we played a 10 question Kahoot review game - reviewed quadratic formula, discriminant, and imaginary numbers. Students received a review for Test #3 which is on Wednesday, 10/23.
HW: Complete your review for Test #3 and missing assignments. Students had a 3 question warm-up that we checked in class. We also checked problems 1 - 4 on WS Kuta Solving Quadratic Equations with Imaginary Solutions ations with Imaginary Solutions and worked out 1 & 4. Then for the rest of class we played a Kahoot game that reviewed quadratic formula, discriminant and complex roots.
HW: Complete WS Kuta Solving Quadratic Equations with Imaginary Solutions. Our test is on 10/23. We started by going over the application problems on the back side of WS 4.7. Students had worked on 1 - 10 during Tuesday's class. WS 4.7 was collected.
We discussed when the discriminant was negative, there was no real solutions (no x-intercepts). With the use of complex numbers, we are able to get complex numbers for our solutions. We showed how to check our answers by using the store feature on the TI-Nspire. We completed 7 equations together in our notes. We will complete the back side tomorrow. Our test will be next Wednesday, 10/23. |
