Students worked on the front side of WS 4-5 (front 7 - 14) and we checked 7 - 9 in class. This reviewed solving quadratics by factoring and the ZPP. We looked at 10 new equations and discussed how they were different from the ones we used factoring & the zero product property. Then we completed 10 examples of how to solve a quadratic by using the square root method.

We started with a Which One Doesn't Belong and then found the zeros for 6 equations (1 - 6) on WS 4-5 Practice. We also looked over the Circuit Training from yesterday and checked the first 5 together.
Students had the rest of class to complete the circuit training - solve by factoring. They also received their quizzes back from yesterday. We went through the last problem together. HW: Complete circuit training - solve by factoring & any missing work. Test will be next Friday. Students completed 2 graphing problems from WS 4.5 (1 - 12) and we checked these in class. Next we worked together to complete our Cornell notes which focused on solving a quadratic equation using factoring and the ZPP (zero product property). We completed 7 examples together. Then students had about 15 minutes to complete their quiz #4 using intercept form of a quadratic.

Students checked their graphs of C & D from last Friday's review sheet.
Then students worked in groups of 3 and each were assigned specific tasks on 4 standard form equations. Students worked well together. Most groups completed their work today as they had about 40 minutes for 4 graphs. Students also checked their work on 7 - 9 on the WS Graphing in Intercept Form. 2nd hour started our notes on solving quadratic equations using factoring and the zeros product property (ZPP). HW: Complete the WS Graphing in Intercept Form 7 - 12 on the back. Our quiz over graphing in intercept form will be tomorrow. Students started by graphing 2 quadratic functions that were in intercept form. Then we checked them and we looked at how to write the equation of a quadratic function in factored form given a graph with two x-intercepts (the p and q) and another point on the parabola (x, y). We used the three given points to determine the value of "a". We completed 3 of these examples together (7 - 9 on their sheet).

Complete 7 - 12 on today's worksheet (writing the equation of the given parabola). Quiz tomorrow on graphing and using intercept form of a quadratic. Students completed a 15 question Kahoot which reviewed factored form of a quadratic function.
We checked through the first 2 pages of the graphing in factored form packet. Students are to complete the rest of it by Monday. We also worked on graphs a & b of today's handout. We will do graphs c & d on Monday. HW: Complete graphing in factored form packet (pages 1 - 4). Quiz on Tuesday, 9/24. Students completed the 4 question warm-up on factoring (used GCF and trinomials where a = 1). Then we looked at their graphs and could see that the x-intercepts were used in the factor groups. We reviewed the factored form of a quadratic: y = a(x - p)(x - q) by working through the Desmos Activity with Angry Birds.
Most students completed this in class. Near the end of class, we checked through the first part of the Graphing in Factored Form Packet and also checked the first graph on page 2. HW: Complete the Desmos Activity with Angry Birds & do page 3 of the Graphing in Factored Form Packet. Students worked on a Desmos factoring card sort (5 slides) as our warm-up. Then we completed the front page of our notes which reviewed key features about graphs of quadratics.
Finally, we spent more time on intercept (or factored) form of a quadratic. Students received their notes on google classroom and we 5 examples (2 had graphs) together. We were reminded that a y-intercept can be found by letting x = 0. Complete the Desmos card sort if you did not finish in class. Students were given the first 10 minutes to complete the google classroom quiz that was assigned last Friday. Then we checked the 1/2 sheet from yesterday and went over frequently missed questions on the google classroom quiz. With this we reviewed the box method. Students had the last 15 - 20 minutes to complete Quiz #3. When finished, students worked on the front side (a review from graphing in vertex form) of the graphing quadratics notes.
HW: Complete any missing assignments. We completed Test Prep 4.4 discussing how to tackle multiple choice questions. We also did review the box method. Then we checked 1 - 8 on the back side of the review notes, factoring when a = 1. On these, students needed to factor out the GCF first and then factor the remaining trinomial.
Students also worked on the 1/2 sheet (5 factoring problems). Lastly, we worked on Desmos: Factoring Quadratics. We matched 2 sets of cards together by factoring using the box method. HW: Complete the 1/2 sheet & Desmos Factoring Quadratics match up from today, your google quiz from Friday, and be ready for your factoring quiz tomorrow. |
