Students completed questions 1 - 3 on the DE Investigation #4 Worksheet. Together we reviewed the graphing method with the TI-Nspire calculators. Students were able to check their work on WS 6-5. This was collected. We went over questions 19, 25 - 27, together in class. During the last 15 minutes, students solved the last 4 radical equations used the algebraic method and graphing method on Quiz #2.

We started with a review of radical equations with a Kahoot game. Then we went over the front side of WS 6.5.. We discussed whether to use the algebraic method or graphing method on 16 - 25 on the back side. We also reviewed the graphing method together by ding #16. Lastly, students worked together on Quiz #2.
Students also received a review packet for their upcoming test next week. HW: Complete the WS 6.5 front side & 16 - 25 on the back. Complete the DE Quizzes. Students checked through their work from yesterday on 1 - 4 & 6 - 11 on the radical equation homework worksheet. Students then worked on the 13 equations from the Practice Activity (page 2). We went through 9 - 13 together, showing that the algebraic method can take a fair amount of work and skills. Then we showed how we could solve these equations by graphing the left side of the equation in f1 and the right side of the equation in f2 on the TI-Nspire. We showed how to find the point of intersection(s) through the Menu and selecting Geometry. We saw that this technique worked very efficiently.
HW: Complete the Practice activity & the DE Quizzes (operations with radicals and radical equations) and complete the front side of WS 6.5 (use the algebraic method and may check by graphing with desmos). Students had time to work on the following items:
Discovery Education Quizzes (operations with radicals and radical equations), complete 1 - 4 & 6 - 11 on the radical equations homework worksheet from yesterday, & complete any missing homework. Students completed the 6 question warm-up and then we work through about 5 - 7 radical equations using the algebraic method. Students focused on isolating the variable and then eliminating the root by raising each side to the index power and then solving a simple algebra equation.

We went over Test Prep 6.4 & WS 6.4 Practice. Both were collected. Students used the rest of the time to work on the Discovery Education Quiz: Operations with Radicals. 2nd hour also complete the first page of notes on solving radical equations.
HW: Complete the DE Quiz Each class played a Kahoot game (2nd hour on operations with radicals & 7th hour on rational exponents). We went over the WS Kuta Radicals & Rational Exponents and completed 25 - 32 together. This was collected. Then students had the rest of class to complete two items listed below.
HW: WS Test Prep 6.4 (on the back of Test Prep 6.3) & WS 6.4 Practice (on the back of WS 6-4 Vocab Support) Students completed Test Prep 6.3 & we went over it in class. Students also checked their work from WS 6.4 Vocab Support. They received their Quiz #1 back and we went over common errors. 7th hour played an 8 question Kahoot game. Both classes completed a short (5 question) google classroom quiz.
HW: Complete 1- 24 on WS Kuta Radicals & Rational Exponents. Students completed a 4 question warm-up which was checked in class. We also went over the Radicals Review Worksheet and collected it. We completed the last column of our notes on rational exponents.
Then students completed their Quiz #1. Students worked in groups of 4, as they answered questions (3 - 6) on each of 7 sheets. Groups could move onto the next sheet with all problems correctly answered. Groups were able to get feedback and learn from each other.
HW: Quiz #1: simplifying & operations is tomorrow. Complete the Radicals Review Worksheet from last Friday if you have not yet done so. |
