Students who wish to reassess must complete the reassessment process by October 2nd. Students need to complete all missing homework from Standard 15 (listed in IC), meet with me, and complete any additional prep work and then reassess the test.

We also completed notes and examples on using the factoring methods of greatest common factor and difference of squares.

HW: Complete at least 1 side of the WS Circuit Training (GCF & Difference of Squares).]]><![CDATA[Test 4.1 - 4.2]]>Fri, 15 Sep 2017 23:08:46 GMThttp://mrsseverson.weebly.com/algebra-3-4-blog/test-41-422502054Students turned in their study guide 4.1 - 4.2 and took their first test over 4.1 - 4.2.

Solutions are posted on the ALGEBRA 3-4 page (click the tab at the top). Students must turn this in to take the test tomorrow. Quiz 4.2 was returned to students. Study your quizzes and review packets.

Please turn in any missing work by tomorrow.

We also discussed the last graph on page 2 and the non-graphing problems on page 3. Students need to complete the last page which is WS 4.2 Test Prep. Students then had 15 minutes to complete the rest of yesterday's quiz 4.2. Scores are updated in IC. Lastly, students received a study guide 4.1- 4.2 today that must be completed in order to take the test on Friday.

We also went over page 2 on the 4.1 - 4.2 review. Then students had 20 - 23 minutes for Quiz 4.2. Students will be given up to 10 minutes to complete the back page.

Then we completed the rest of 4.2 notes, where we able to write the equation of a parabola in vertex form given its vertex and another point on the graph. We saw that by examining the graph, we could determine the "a" value if the point was 1 unit away from the vertex. Otherwise, we substituted the values of (x, y) from the point into our equation to determine the "a" value.

They all checked their work. Then students had time to work on WS 4.2 Practice. The front side should be done.

We went over this in class. Then we completed our notes on graphing a parabola in standard form. We did 3 examples together. It is important to find the vertex using the formula x = -b/(2a) and then subbing in to get the corresponding y-value. The "c" is the y-intercept and we used the axis of symmetry to help generate more points.

Lastly, students worked in groups of 3 and each were assigned specific tasks on 4 standard form equations. We will complete this group activity tomorrow.

Then they matched the standard form equation with its vertex form equation. Then students completed and/or checked their book 4.2 assignment. We used the last 8 minutes to play an 8 question Kahoot game that reviewed standard form of a quadratic.

Students needing additional help, please make arrangements as soon as possible. Then we used Cornell notes to discuss standard form of a quadratic. We found the vertex by using x = -b/(2a), axis of symmetry, the y-intercept (sub in x =0) and converted the quadratic from standard form into vertex form. We graphed both of these forms and found that the graphs were identical.
