HW: Complete the Desmos activity from 2 days ago & finish 1 - 6 on today's worksheet. Enjoy the Labor Day Weekend! Test will be in a week.
Students worked on a review sheet where they identified key features and an equations from a given graphs (parabola or angle). Then students worked with one person on their first partner quiz of the year on transformations. We will complete this on Tuesday, as most students needed 5 - 10 more minutes.

Students completed the 4.1 Vocab Support where they matched 9 vocabulary words to their descriptions. We checked this in class. Then students were given time to complete their Desmos activity from yesterday. Afterwards, students were to graph (1 - 6) the given equations and complete the key features worksheet. We did the first one together. WS Graphing in Vertex Form (review 4.1) was collected.
HW: Complete the Desmos activity and complete the first 6 graphs and information. Quiz #2 is tomorrow on transforming quadratics and making their graphs. Our first test will be in a week! Students completed a 4 question multiple choice warm-up. We went over the questions in class. We completed 4 more problems on writing the equation of a parabola in vertex form from a given graph or information. We also discussed yesterday's quiz.
Lastly, students worked on the Desmos Activity: Graphing the Vertex Form of Parabolas. Use the video link for review or practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zzoe5r40xg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgLR2J4d-7s HW: Complete the Desmos Activity: Graphing the Vertex Form of Parabolas and turn in WS Graphing Parabolas in Vertex Form (Review 4.1). Students completed a 6 question warm-up on transformations using a, h, k. Then we completed the last page of our original notes where we created 2 graphs from given equations and identified the vertex, axis of symmetry, and transformations.
The last two questions, we looked at the process for writing the equation of a parabola given its graph or given its vertex and a point on it. We did two examples together. Students had the last 20 minutes to complete their first quiz. Scores will be recorded in Infinite Campus. Use the video links for review or practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYlWhtgUwJI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhjobhzVMw4 HW: Complete WS Graphing Parabolas in Vertex Form (1 - 12). Students completed a 6 question warm-up on identifying a, h, k, and their transformations.
Then we examined the transformations that occurred with the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2, looking at the effects of a, h and k on our parabola, making connections to what we already learned from transformations with absolute value functions. Also, we talked about the range of the function being tied to the "k" value. We completed 3 graphs together on the WS 4.1 Reteaching. Our first quiz is tomorrow over transformations and graphing the absolute value function. Students worked with partners and were given 18 graphs and asked to match their verbal description for the transformations as well as the equations. These were checked in class. Nice job working together!
Then students completed the transformations quiz in their google classroom as well as the desmos activity (absolute value graphs) that we started the day before. Students turned in WS 2.7. HW: Complete the desmos activity (absolute value graphs) and WS 2.7 if not turned in. Students completed a 6 question warm-up that we went over in class, which reviewed the effects a, h, and k. We checked these in class.
We also played a 12 question Kahoot game that reviewed the effects of a, h, and k. We went over questions from the front side of WS 2.7 and then used the rest of class to work on the desmos absolute value graph activity. We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k) and the "a" value. Student completed a 6 question warm-up on the effects of h and k. We checked this in class.
We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k). We also checked the front side of the attached worksheet. We completed a few of these together. Students continued to work on the Circuit Training - Solving Linear Equations.
We reviewed the key components of graphing an absolute value function, the vertex (h, k) and completed our Desmos investigation using the "a" value. We also checked the front side of the attached worksheet. We completed a few of these together. HW: Complete the back of the Parent Function Worksheet - just the boxes. Tomorrow we will make the graphs. The circuit training should be mostly done, 5 - 10 minutes in class tomorrow to complete it and then turn it in. We went over the first 4 questions from the WS Circuit Training and students were given 5 more minutes to work on it. We should have this completed by Wednesday, 8/21 with students getting 10 minutes a day to work on it in class.
For the rest of the class, students worked on investigating translations of the function, y = x^2. Students used their chromebooks to sign into google classroom. Students were introduced to the information under the Classwork tab. Students were able to test their own values and insert sliders for h and k and then notice how these affected the parent function. We also saw that the vertex is always (h, k) and the axis of symmetry is x = h. HW: Complete the first 4 parabola problems using the given graphs of the attached worksheet. |
