We watched 2 short videos on what is a half-life and how to solve 3 half-life problems. We paused the video and discussed these together as well as the usefiulness of have a formula. The links are below.

Students checked over their WS 7.1 on exponential applications. We also went over 4 - 6 from yesterday's notes (annually compounded interest versus continuously compounded interest). We also checked WS 7.2 practice 1 -12. Students were able to check their work with solutions on the screen. Students had 10 - 20 minutes to work on the book 7.1 assignment.

We started with 3 test prep questions from 7.1. We checked these together. Then we learned about the different ways interest can be compounded. Besides compounding annually (section 7.1), interest can be compounded continuously using the formula A(t) = Pe^(rt). We worked through a couple of examples together and showed how to use the e^x button on the calculator.

We worked in the computer lab on 3 Desmos activities that used exponential functions.
Students were in the computer lab to complete the 3 activities. Go to www.student.desmos.com and use the 3 codes (each separately) 1) ZY6CV 2) HVU55 3) RBUF7 WS 7.1 Practice was collected. HW: Complete WS 7.1 (from yesterday) & finish the 3 Desmos activities. We went over the completion of the 7.1 packet and the WS Drug Filtering chart.
We solved exponential equations by 2 methods: guess and check and graphing. For graphing, we found the intersection point with the graphing calculators. Students can use www.desmos.com to solve any equations outside of class. Use the link below for review/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wb-T8bcqZM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNK9oNprBu0 HW: Complete WS 7.1 Practice (from Thursday, 3/2) and today's review WS 7.1 (1 - 6). On Tuesday, March 7th, go directly to the computer lab, D12C. This is near the elevator on the first floor. I was not in class due to a couple of meetings.
Students used the class period to complete their 7.1 packet (except for the last page) with their tablemates. Students were given WS 7.1 and used their 7.1 notes packet (or book 7.1) to complete it. Use the video links below for practice or review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJsKTTkIjFk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4kuWR92p7M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nxSHt9Ki9A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj9qNmLRmJ8 HW: complete 2 items: 7.1 notes packet (do all except for the last page) & WS 7.1. Using desmos.com, we looked at the features of exponential model as well as its basic form: y = ab^x. We made connections to the 4 real-world problems. We wrote equations for situations. Lastly, we created tables and graphed 4 exponential functions and found that the function will increase if a > 0 and b > 1 . The exponential function will decrease if a > 0 and 0 < b < 1.
We also saw that the exponential has a pattern of multiplication or division, which is a common ratio. Use the video links below for practice/review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaYKgW1396s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ_xkK3DqNs HW: Complete the next 2 pages of the 7.1 packet. |
