HW: Prepare for your AP Exam using the Fast Track to a Five Book or getafive.com
Students worked on their test 6.1 - 6.3 and turned in the homework from week 10 & 11.
HW: Prepare for your AP Exam using the Fast Track to a Five Book or getafive.com Students completed a warm-up problem of solving a differential equation. We went over this together. Then we went over common errors on the Quiz 6.2 - 6.3. We also went over questions from the Review 6.1 - 6.3.
During the last 10 minutes we started our 7.1 notes on how to find the area between 2 curves. HW: Test 6.1 - 6.3 is tomorrow. Please turn in the homework from weeks 10 & 11; details are in IC. Students worked on 2 exponential growth/decay problems. We went over these in class. Students had the last 17 minutes to complete their quiz 6.2 - 6.3. Students also received another Standardized Test Circuit Training Worksheet to practice for the SAT.
Students were given WS Differential Equations by Separation of Variables - Classwork. HW: Complete WS Differential Equations by Separation of Variables - Classwork: do 1 - 10 and the back side (6a - c). The study guide should be completed. Test 6.1 - 6.3 is this Friday, April 7th. Since about half the class are juniors, we watched a short video on the format and content of the math portion of the SAT. All juniors will be taking the SAT on April 5th. This is a requirement for graduation and the SAT score will be on the student's transcript.
Students then worked on slope field matching activity that was done with a partner. Students received feedback in class. Students also received a review of 6.1 - 6.3 which has answers included. Use the links for more SAT Math practice (and the in class video) https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/sat/new-sat-tips-planning/about-the-sat-math-test/v/about-the-sat-math-test-what-to-expect https://www.princetonreview.com/college-advice/sat-math-practice Lastly, we went over 1 more exponential growth problem from WS 6.2. HW: WS review of 6.1 - 6.3 & be ready to complete Quiz 6.2 - 6.3 tomorrow. We took time to go over the chapter 4 test. We worked through some common errors and students were encouraged to use the website getafive.com (use the directions below) for AP Exam preparation as well as improving their weakness on the chapter 4 test.
1. Visit getafive.com and click on "I'm a student". 2. On the students page, choose "AP Calculus AB". 3. On the AP Calculus AB page, click on the "Enroll now" button. 4. Create an account or log in if you're already signed up. 5. You're now in your personal Study Room. 6. Click on the "Join a Class" tab on the left and enter this code: 2XDF6FR We also solved 2 differential equations and then students worked on their Quiz 6.2 - 6.3. Students will complete this when they come back from break (review exponential growth/decay in 6.2). Enjoy your Spring Break! Students worked through differential equations using the circuit training worksheet. During the last 10 minutes we went over 3 of the MC exponential growth/decay problems together.
Use the video links for practice/review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzqLplhh0DU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bhy5B47dDU HW: Quiz 6.2 - 6.3 (solving differential equations and exponential growth/decay) is tomorrow, 3/24. Students received their Quiz 6.1 back and we went over the 2 bonus questions. We also solved another differential equation with an initial condition.
This lead us into our differential equation dy/dt = cy and when we solve it for "y" we get back to the Pe^(rt) formula for exponential growth (or decay). We completed 3 examples together. Students are to complete the WS 6.2 Exponential Growth/Decay. Use the video link to review or practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAh-zh78ht4 (no need to worry about interest compounded quarterly) HW: WS 6.2 Exponential Growth/Decay Please watch these short videos on exponential growth/decay as related to differential equations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkQpdYlyEXg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9rcYTuFG4w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWfTckls59k optional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p05t2kNdoc Students received their Fast Track to a Five book to help them prepare for the AP exam. It is on May 9th.
Students did page 131 (or 135) #3 and the separable differential equation (on the half sheet). We went over these together as well as showing slope fields on desmos (link is below). https://www.desmos.com/calculator/p7vd3cdmei Students had 20 minutes for their quiz. Students received the notes on 6.2 Exponential growth and decay. HW: Slope field worksheets should be done. Please watch these short videos on exponential growth/decay as related to differential equations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkQpdYlyEXg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9rcYTuFG4w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWfTckls59k optional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p05t2kNdoc Students completed 9 matching differential equations to 9 slope fields. We checked these in class. Students also had practice on estimating a slope at a given point and drawing the particular solution at a given point. We also looked at a few questions where the limit as x goes to infinity when at a particular point.
HW: Complete the slope field questions in WS #35 Slope Fields and differential equations (skip 2 & 6 - 8 for now). Quiz 6.1 Slope Fields is tomorrow, 3/21. Students that were absent on the Hub fieldtrip completed their chapter 4 test. Then we checked through 2 self-generated slope fields, 2 sets of matching 4 slope fields to differential equations and 1 set of 8 slope fields and matching it to a possible original equation. We also complete 3 Kahoot questions on slope fields.
