Homework: 2008 FRQ #1 and another question of your choice.
Due to the number of students taking the practice AP exams, we did a 4 question review of volumes of solids with given cross sections.
Homework: 2008 FRQ #1 and another question of your choice. Students received the AP Calculus AB 2008 FRQ questions (1 - 6). We did 1a in class as a warm-up. We used animations to show the various solids formed by a given space (the placemat) and a given cross section. We completed 3 - 5 examples together. 7th hour used the play-doh today as they ran out of time yesterday.
Use the videos for more examples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_50DlV9v24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puSlVA6mwNQ Homework: 2008 FRQ #1 (do all of it) and book 7.2 page 467 71, and 72 parts a and b. Students received back their quizzes on 7.1. We also discussed any questions on 1 - 4 a - e in the packet from last Friday. Then students used play-doh to make a 3-D model of the solid with a given cross section of either equilateral triangles or squares.
Check out the video links below for more examples on volumes of solids formed by revolving a region about a vertical line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNhLphUjXus http://www.khanacademy.org/math/calculus/solid_revolution_topic/disc-method/v/washer-or-ring-method-for-vertical-line-rotation Homework: Complete 1 - 4 parts a - f and 5 - 7 parts a - b. Tomorrow please turn in WS 6.2, book 6.2 & 6.3. We went over the set up for #64c and #65 b from WS 7.1. Then students had 20 minutes of work alone time and then 10 minutes of consultation time on Quiz 7.1.
Homework: Do 1- 4 a through e and 5 - 7 part a only. We went over 3 more problems that used the washer method. Students had the opportunity to work through the problems and then we discussed them.
Homework: In WS 7.1 packet complete 64 part c & 65 part b. In the washer packet from last Friday parts a, b, c, and d should be done on #1 - 4. Quiz 7.1 is tomorrow, April 8th. Also, I will collect the following tomorrow: chapter 4 book review, WS 6.1, and Book 6.1 (page 411 – 413 1, 3, 23, 27, 35, 41 – 53 Odd, 54, 57 - 60). We did 3 warm-up problems that used the disk method. We also used Geometer's Sketchpad to create the 3-d shapes. Next we examined how to find the volume of the solid if the region was revolved and the rotation produced washers instead of disks. We completed 2 - 3 washer examples.
Use the video links below for more examples of the washer method. http://www.khanacademy.org/math/integral-calculus/solid_revolution_topic/solid_of_revolution/v/solid-of-revolution--part-4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5OOMbz5jZk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ithgZfRKMHI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE814ngFt3I Homework: In your packet that you received today, please complete a 1 -4 parts a, b, and c only (on 1 - 4). Quiz on 7.1 will be Tuesday. Our warm-up problem we found the area between two curves (7.1). Then we did 5 examples of the disk method, where we rotated a region over the x-axis or over the y-axis. We completed 5 examples together.
If you did not watch the videos, check them out on the 4/2 blog page. Homework: Page 465 1 - 5 & 7 - 10. Today we went over any remaining questions from yesterday's work on 7.1 (area between curves).
5th hour started discussing the disk method. 7th hour did not (had 6 students at ACT boot camp). Homework: Watch the video links below http://www.khanacademy.org/math/integral-calculus/solid_revolution_topic/disc-method/v/disk-method-around-x-axis http://www.khanacademy.org/math/integral-calculus/solid_revolution_topic/disc-method/v/generalizing-disc-method-around-x-axis http://www.khanacademy.org/math/calculus/solid_revolution_topic/solid_of_revolution/v/solid-of-revolution--part-1 Students had the opportunity to check their answers from WS 7.1 1 - 5.
Then they worked together to complete #64 a & b and #65 part a on the same WS 7.1. After completing that students were to work on the book assignment 7.1. HW: Book 7.1 page 454 1, 3, 5, 6, 21, 25, 28, 31 & 35. |
