HW: Happy Halloween!
We did a little review of 5.1 on classifying a polynomial by its degree & number of terms by completing the WS 5.1 Test Prep. We looked at questions over WS 5.1. This was collected. Then we started our discussion of zeros and writing an equation in standard form given the zeros: 1, 3, and -4. We also looked at factoring polynomials whose degree is 3 by using GCF and factoring the quadratic trinomial. We will continue with our 5.2 notes tomorrow.

Students completed the 5.1 Additional Vocab Support sheet in class which reviewed how to classify a polynomial by its degree and number of terms. We used desmos.com to investigate the end behavior of linear, quadratic, cubic, quartic, quintic polynomials with lead coeffecients that were positive or negative.
We came up with this generalization: For polynomials with even degrees, if a> 0 then the end behavior is up, up. For polynomials with even degrees, if a< 0 then the end behavior is down, down. For polynomials with ODD degrees, if a> 0 then the end behavior is down, up. For polynomials with ODD degrees, if a< 0 then the end behavior is up, down. This is a summative assessment. Afterwards, they were able to work on the WS Circuit Training - finding zeros of functions.
HW: If you were absent, turn in the Fastball Lab on Monday, 10/30. Complete WS Circuit Training - finding zeros of functions. Students were shown the PBIS program on Social Media: Do's and Don'ts. Then students used the graphing calculator to help them generate a table of values for their fastball lab. This data is used to create the graph for the lab. The Fastball Lab is due on Wednesday, 10/25.
HW: Your fastball lab should have the first page (front & back completed) with the table of values and graph done. You'll have time to complete the Deep Thought Questions in class on 10/25. Students completed the first page of this math lab. Students measured their initial height and calculated the hang time of their fastball. Luckily, we managed to do this between the rain. :) Students will complete this tomorrow in class. This is a summative quiz and will be part of their grade.
HW: Complete 1 - 10. The fastball lab is due at the end of class on Wednesday, October 25th. Students turned in their study guide from 4.7 - 4.9 and WS 4.9 Practice. They had the whole class period to complete the test.
Enjoy the weekend! Students were given 1 or 2 of the review problems to put up around the room. We discussed them and corrected any errors.
Test 4.7 - 4.9 is tomorrow, 10/20. Please turn in WS 4.9 and the review. Solutions to the review are posted on http://mrsseverson.weebly.com/honors-algebra-3-4.html We went over book 4.9 and collected it with WS 4.8/4.9 Test Prep. We also went over WS 4.9 1 - 9. Students are to complete 1 - 3 on the back side. Students were given a review packet 4.7 - 4.9 and are to complete the evens in the packet.
HW: Complete evens in the review packet. Test is Friday, 10/20. Students used class time to complete 1-4 on WS 4.9 Test Prep. We went over these in class. 2nd hour went over their Quiz 4.8. We also completed 1 more quadratic-linear system by graphing and another by using substitution.
HW: Complete book 4.9 (page 262 - 264 9, 10, 12, 16, 62 - 68) and WS 4.9 Practice 1 - 9. Test is Friday 10/20. Students completed #8 & #9 on WS 4.8 Test Prep. We also went over book 4.8 and collected it. Then we went through 2 basic methods for solving a system: graphing and using algebra (substitution was used). We practiced this with 2 different systems. Students were given their Quiz 4.8 to complete.
