We went over and collected the WS Circuit Training - Simple Logarithms. Then we went through the steps of how to do find a regression equation on the TI-Nspire. This is needed for the data analysis for the M & M Lab. Turn in the lab no later than Tuesday, March 6th.

Students completed a 5 questions 1/2 sheet entrance slip. We checked these in class. Students also started working on the WS Circuit Training - Simple Logarithms.
We went over the last page of the student investigation on properties of logarithms. We checked over the 6 problems on WS 7.4 (2 - 12 evens) and did a couple more together. We also checked the front side of the worksheet students did yesterday (Practice with Logarithms). HW: Complete WS Circuit Training - Simple Logarithms and the evens on WS 7.4. Complete the back side of yesterday's WS Practice with Logarithms. Students received their district assessment back from last Thursday. 2nd hour went over a few questions. Students worked together to evaluate the logarithms from log 1 through log 20. They were asked to identify any patterns.
Students were able to see the properties of adding logarithms [log x + log y = log(xy)]. We also looked at its "sister" property of subtracting logarithms [log x - log y = log(x/y)]. Students are to complete the last page of the activity. Use the links for practice/help https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/logarithms-tutorial/logarithm_properties/v/introduction-to-logarithm-properties https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAW7WRFBKdw HW: Complete 2 - 12 evens on the WS 7.4. Also complete the front side of today's worksheet on practice with logarithms (the rewriting process). Your M & M's Lab is due on 2/28. Please you should have completed the first page and be working on page 2. We used the TI-Nspire to examine the inverse graph of y = 2^x. We identified points we expected to see on y = 2^x and its inverse. Then we looked a the reflection of y = 2^x over the line y = x. Then we were asked to come up with a name for the graph of the inverse of 2^x. We found on the calculator that the log (logarithm) key is the inverse of 2^x. Students received a handout explaining that a logarithm is the exponent and we worked through about 5 - 6 examples for evaluating a logarithm.
Use the video link for review/practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfYsiJcVWy0&list=PLBFAE01DF8EA66352 HW: Complete the attached worksheet on converting to and from logarithmic form. Students completed their first summative quiz by completing the district assessment.
WS 7.2 was collected. HW: Work on your M & M Lab which is due on 2/28. We went over the review 7.1 - 7.2 today. We also discussed common mistakes on the Quiz 7.1 - 7.2. Please complete and turn in WS 7.2 tomorrow.
HW: Summative Quiz 7.1 - 7.2 is tomorrow, 2/22. There is no retake for this. Solutions to the review are posted on http://mrsseverson.weebly.com/honors-algebra-3-4.html Students who did not take or complete their Quiz 7.1 - 7.2 did so today in class. 6th hour we went over the WS 7.2 Test Prep. We also used desmos.com to look to the transformations of the exponential function by looking at the values of h and k. Students were reminded of a reflection over the x-axis if the "a" value is negative and a reflection over the y-axis if x is replaced with -x. We completed 1 - 10 together on WS 7.2 from last week. Students used the rest of class to work on WS 7.2 or their WS 7.1 - 7.2 Review.
HW: Complete WS 7.2 (both sides) & WS 7.1 - 7.2 Review. Summative Quiz on 7.1 - 7.2 is Thursday, 2/22. We completed a Kahoot review of 7.1 - 7.2, focusing on the Pe^(rt) formula. Then we checked over the 7.2 Test Prep and students turned it in with their WS 7.1 Exponential Growth & Decay (1 - 6). Lastly, students completed the 7.2 Quiz and picked up a review sheet on 7.1 - 7.2.
HW: Complete the review and any missing work from 7.1 - 7.2. Look under Standard 12 in IC. Summative quiz 7.1 - 7.2 will be on 2/22. Students were given the first 10 minutes to complete their M & M Lab that modeled exponential growth and decay, which they started yesterday. Once done, they worked on a 7.1 review sheet (1 - 6). Then students were asked to complete the WS 7.2 Test Prep (on the back of the 7.1 Test Prep).
We also checked the last page of the 7.2 notes (problems 5 - 8). Use the video links for more practice/review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekoQTOI_9js https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqfRSJBhgfY (Don't worry about solving with logarithms on the last problem. You can solve by graphing.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU-xFs5LPrY (You can solve these by graphing.) HW: Today's WS 7.1 (1 - 6) & WS 7.2 Test Prep (on the back of the 7.1 Test Prep). Quiz 7.2 is tomorrow. You must know the half-life and Pe^(rt) formulas. Students received their quiz 7.1 back and we went over common errors, particularly on the difference between the base (b) and the rate of growth or decay (r). Then students were given materials for an M & M Lab that modeled exponential growth and decay. Students used the rest of class to collect data on exponential growth and some completed the exponential decay. You will have 10 minutes tomorrow to complete the decay data collection. Bring your materials back if you need to do this part.
HW: Happy Valentine's Day. Complete any missing work from 7.1 and complete your last page of the 7.2 notes. |
