HW: Complete WS 4.6/4.7 Test Prep. This will be collected on Monday, 10/3.
Students worked on WS 4.7 Test Prep on class. We went over the questions together & then students completed the Quiz 4.7.

Students worked with their tablemates on 6 quadratic equations to solve by using the quadratic formula. They also completed 6 problems on using the discriminant and its conclusions. We went over these 12 problems. Students were also able to check over their test 4.1 - 4.5. 2 scores were entered into IC for this test. Those score a 2 or lower on either portion of the test may retake by our next test.
HW: Be prepared for Quiz 4.7 tomorrow. Students were given a 4 question entrance slip. They completed this in class. We also discussed the discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) and how it will indicate the number and type of solutions one can have from a quadratic equation.
Students received their Quiz 4.6 back; as a class you did a great job! We checked over the book 4.7 assignment & it was collected. Then we used the last 15 minutes to play a Kahoot review game on quadratics & the quadratic formula. HW: None if you have completed book 4.7. Enjoy the powderpuff games! We completed our 4.7 notes on using the quadratic formula. We also did 3 review equations that used the square root method or completing the square. Then students completed their 4.6 quiz. After the quiz, students worked on book assignment 4.7.
HW: Book 4.7 (on the bottom of the 4.7 notes page) Students were given the answers to the even problems from book 4.6. We also went over a few questions from WS 4.6. Both should be turned in tomorrow if you did not turn them in today.
We completed about two thirds of our class notes on using the quadratic formula (section 4.7). We will finish these up tomorrow. Book assignment 4.7 is due Wednesday, 9/28. Mathletes meeting is 7:00 tomorrow morning in C215. Students were given opportunity to go over book questions from 4.6. Students had the class period to work on WS 4.6 with their tablemates.
HW: Complete book 4.6 if you have not done so. WS 4.6 (both sides) is due Monday, 9/26. We finished our 4.6 notes which gave us a technique for solving a quadratic that will always work. Factoring method only works some of the time. We saw that if the solutions were rational numbers (written as a fraction) then the equation could have been solved by factoring. We looked at various problem and found that if we could create a perfect square with the variable side we could use the square root property to solve the equation. We needed to have a 1x^2 and then get the proper c value by taking half of b and then squaring it. Students had about 20 minutes to work on their homework.
Use the video links for more examples of this method. http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/quadratics/completing_the_square/v/solving-quadratic-equations-by-completing-the-square https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGOQYTo9AKY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKV5ZqYIAMQ http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/ate12/completesqlesson.htm HW: Book 4.6 Students were given 35 minutes to complete their test. Then we completed the first page of Notes 4.6. We looked at how we could solve an equation where there was a perfect square, so we took the square root of both sides.
HW: Complete the last 3 problems on the first page of the notes 4.6. Students turned in their study guide and worked on the test 4.1 - 4.5. We will complete the test tomorrow in class (about 15 minutes).
HW: Be ready to finish the test. Students received back their Quiz 4.5 and homework that was turned in. We went over #1, 7 and 8 on the quiz. Then we went over every problem on the study guide.
HW: Test tomorrow, 9/20 over 4.1 - 4.5 (not 4.3). You must turn in your study guide to received a test. The last day to turn in missing homework is tomorrow. |
