We went over a couple of examples before quiz 3.1 - 3.2. We looked at how the mean value theorem could be used to determine if someone was speeding. Homework is to complete the WS 3.3 packet (1 - 8) that was handed out today and complete book 3.3. Monday we start 3.
Today we went through the first derivative test to find extrema. We also were able to determine on what intervals a function was increasing or decreasing.
Students are to complete at least the first half of the book 3.3 assignment. Also, Quiz 3.1 - 3.2 will be tomorrow (know how to find critical points & be able to use MVT & Rolle's Theorem). For more help on 3.3 use the following links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoYQCWbeGnU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJb_Qk0O5a0 http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/First-Derivative-Test-for-Local-Extrema.topicArticleId-39909,articleId-39892.html Want more practice? Use the link below, right now you have not learned the derivative rules for e^x and ln(x) so skip those problems. http://archives.math.utk.edu/visual.calculus/3/graphing.5/ http://www.mathcaptain.com/calculus/first-derivative-test.html At the beginning of class, students completed a 4 question practice quiz on section 3.2. We went over the solutions and then went over the answers to the MVT packet (spaghetti activity). Then we started discussing graphs and there connections to derivative signs. Increasing functions have first derivatives that are positive and decreasing functions have first derivatives that are negative. We quickly taked about the first derivative test and will talk more about this tomorrow.
Tonight's homework is to read section 3.3 and complete book 3.2 if For the first half of class, students worked with a partner to complete quiz 2.6. Then students investigated 10 different graphs by looking at the secant line and how many tangent lines had the same slope as the secant line. Tonight's homework: students are to complete the packet from class and finish the book problems from 3.2.
Today we went over answers for the WS 2.6 Related Rates Worksheet. You many also find the worked out solutions on the AP Calculus AB page.
We discussed Rolle's Theorem and the Mean Value Theorem. Tonight's homework is to start book 3.2 (at least through #34). Quiz 2.6 is tomorrow (picking 4 related rates problems to complete). Homework that is to be turned in is book 2.6, WS Relating Rates, WS 2.6 Related Rate (1-7) & book 3.1.
