We completed most of our notes on 5.5/5.6 with the big idea being the rational root theorem and the fundamental theorem of algebra (the number of complex zeros, including multiple zeros = the degree of the polynomial). We also used technology (graphing calculator) to help us find real zeros of a polynomial where we could not make use of any factoring methods. Then we used synthetic division to find the rest of the solutions (including complex). We saw the sometimes we needed to use the quadratic formula to find the other zeros from the remaining quadratic.

Then we used the remainder theorem and synthetic substitution to determine the value of a polynomial function. Students had about 20 - 25 minutes to complete today's homework.
HW: Complete today's worksheet We reviewed the standard algorithm for division and we used that as we divided a polynomial by a quadratic or a linear binomial. We completed 6 examples together in class.

Students completed our notes which review the affects of a, h and k on the parent functions.
HW: Complete WS 5.9. Tomorrow, go to computer lab D12A (near the auditorium). We went over the graphing polynomials study guide & collected it as well as the graphing packet from earlier in the week. Students had time to complete the district math assessment on graphing polynomial functions.
Enjoy the weekend! Students worked in the computer lab to complete 2 desmos activity on writing an equation in factored form to match its equation.
HW: complete the review guide, District assessment on graphing polynomials is tomorrow. Students checked the 3 graphs that were done yesterday and then they completed the last 2 in the packet. These were all checked in class. Then students received 3 sheets on cubic functions and their graphs.
HW: complete 1 - 4 on the first page and then do the graph matching- from the 11 equations match 6 to the given graphs. Tomorrow meet in computer lab A, through the Sabre Center. 2nd received their test 5.1 - 5.3 back and we went over it. Those wishing to reasess must complete the process by 11/29. Then we completed 4 graphing problems together. We used the end behavior, x-intercepts, and y-intercept and a few calculated points to make our graphs.
