HW: Complete the graphing polynomials packet and WS 5.9 Test Prep.
Students were given polynomials in factored form & standard form and we created the graph. We used the end behavior and the zeros to get the graph started. Then we evaluated other points between the zeros to make the correct graph. We also took note of even multiplicity which creates a bounce effect or turn at the x-axis.

Students completed an in class activity where they matched factored form polynomials to 15 given graphs. We examined the end behavior and the zeros of each function, as well as the multiplicity of the zeros (even has the bounce effect). Then we went over WS 5.9 and checked most of the problems on the back side.
HW: Complete WS 5.9 if you have not yet done so. We reviewed the transformations of functions: reflections over the x or y-axis, vertical stretch or compression, horizontal or vertical shifts. We completed 6 examples together. We showed how to find the real zeros of a transformed cubic function.
Students had 10 minutes to complete any questions from their test 5.3 - 5.6. HW: Complete WS 5-9 Form K (both sides) Students took their test 5.3 - 5.6.
HW: turn in any missing work. Happy Thanksgiving! Due to the number of students on the AVID fieldtrip last Thursday and Friday the test will NOT cover 5.9. We went over the study guide in class.
HW: Test 5.3, 5.4, & 5.6 will be tomorrow, 11/22. Students were given up to 30 minutes to complete the Quiz 5.6. Then student could work together with their tablemates with the task of matching polynomial equations to graphs. We referenced our notes from yesterday and it was suggested to examine the end behavior and the zeros.
We used the last 15 minutes of class to discuss transformations of polynomial functions, finding the real zero, and writing a polynomial with given information. Students also received a study guide that they can start working on. The study guide is due on Tuesday, 11/22. HW: Complete the graph match activity and complete your WS HW Day 1 (yesterday's homework). Complete WS 5.9. Your Test 5.3, 5.4, 5.6, & 5.9 is on Tuesday, 11/22. The link below has 3 examples that we covered in class today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzGYKwHqu4Q We checked WS 5.6 Test Prep and collected it. We went over questions from Quiz 5.3 - 5.4. Then we completed the first page of graphing polynomial functions. We used what we learned about end behavior and zeros to get us started. Then we substituted in values that were between our zeros to help create a good sketch of the polynomial function. If the function was not in factored form, then we used our factoring skills (GCF, box, or quadratic like) to factor it.

We went over and collected book 5.6 assignment. We did #16 & #18 together. Most students received their Quiz 5.3 - 5.4 back. Students had about 25 - 30 minutes to complete WS 5.6 Test Prep and the last page of WS 5.4 - 5.6 Review.
HW: WS 5.6 Test Prep and the last page of WS 5.4 - 5.6 Review. We did a review of the fundamental theorem of algebra and completed our 5.6 notes. Students had about 30 minutes to work with their tablemates on the book 5.6 assignment. I visited each table and answered questions.

Then we completed most of our notes on 5.6 with the big idea being the fundamental theorem of algebra. We also used technology (desmos.com or graphing calculator) to help us find real zeros of a polynomial where we could not make use of any factoring methods. Then we used synthetic division to find the rest of the solutions (including complex).
HW: Complete WS 5.4 - 5.6 the first page. * problems are optional. |
