Students worked in groups on WS 5.4 - 5.6. We completed 3 problems from the last page together as a class. We reviewed how to find the zeros using the TI-Nspire calculators. Students will have 20 more minutes of group time tomorrow.
Students also received their fastball labs and 5.4 quizzes back. HW: Complete 3 of the 4 pages in the review packet 5.4 - 5.6. You do not need to complete the asterisk problems.

We went over the even problems from book assignment 5.6. That was collected with WS 5.4 (1 - 18). Then students completed their quiz 5.4 today. 7th hour received their test back from last Friday. We went over it and any reassessment will need to be completed after Thanksgiving. All homework from 4.8 - 5.3 needs to be completed before reassessment.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Students completed the WS 5.4 Test Prep Questions in class. We went over the 5 questions. Then we checked the WS 5.4 (1 - 18). Students should turn this in by tomorrow. We also went over any odd problems from the book 5.6 assignment. This is due tomorrow. 3rd hour also received their tests back. Reassessments will need to be done after the Thanksgiving break.
HW: Complete book 5.6 assignment and Quiz 5.4 tomorrow, 11/20. We looked at the real zeros of a polynomial function (the x-intercepts) and we also found that we could have complex zeros from our quadratic factors. We used factoring as a technique to get the factors and then used the zero product property. We reviewed GCF and the grouping method. If the polynomial could not be factored we found the real zeros using desmos.com and then used synthetic division to find the complex zeros. We completed 9 examples together.

We went over 3 review problems. 3rd hour went over the book assignment 5.4 and it was collected. Students then had the remaining time to either complete book 5.4 or do WS 5.4 1 - 18. 7th hour will go over the even answer tomorrow and will turn the assignment at that time.
HW: WS 5.4 do 1 - 18 only Students completed their notes (including at least 7 examples) on using long division and synthetic division.
If there is no remainder, then the dividend is a factor of the original. Students completed the test 4.8 - 5.3.
HW: Enjoy the weekend. Students received their quizzes back from yesterday. We went over questions on end behavior and correctly using the substitution method. Then students were given the even answers from book 5.3 and we went over #40 in both classes. 3rd hour also went over #21 and #22. This assignment can be turned in tomorrow if it was not turned in today. Then we used the rest of class to go over the study guide.
HW: Test tomorrow on 4.8 - 5.3. Complete your study guide and any missing work from 4.8 - 5.3. Complete any of the 4 assignments in www.tenmarks.com for extra practice. We went over the WS 5.2 packet (checked the test prep questions) and then collected it. Students had 20 minutes to complete their quiz over 4.9 & 5.1. Students started working on their study guide after they finished their quiz. Then we went over the 4 steps used to solve a polynomial equation and completed 2 problems (with their variations) in class.
HW: Complete at least the first page (front & back) of the study guide and book assignment 5.3. Test on Friday over 4.8, 4.9, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 (no factoring of sum of cubes). Students will be able to 1) Use all 4 basic operations with complex numbers, find the absolute value of a complex number and graph it on a complex number plane 2) Solve a system (involving at least 1 quadratic) by using the graphing and substitution method 3) Be able to writing a polynomial in standard form, classify it by the degree & number of terms, & describe its end behavior 4) Be able to completely factor a polynomial (not sum of cubes) 5) Find the real and/or complex zeros of a polynomial 6) Write the polynomial function in factored form and standard form given the zeros of the polynomial 7) Solve a polynomial equation, which may have real and/or complex solutions. We went over problems from each of the 3 sections on WS 5.2 Practice (1 - 14). Then we looked at finding the zeros of a polynomial function that had repeated linear factors. We found that the number of times we have that same linear factor is the multiplicity of that particular zero. Then we completed a couple of problems from the back side of WS 5.2 (15, 16, 17, & 20) and discussed relative minimum and maximum of a cubic function. The turns will tell us the location of those relative minimum and maximum. We completed #25 together in class.
HW: Complete WS 5.2 Packet and Quiz tomorrow on sections 4.9 & 5.1. Test will be Friday on 4.8 - 5.3. |
