HW: Complete the review packet (4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5) you received yesterday by Monday, 9/19.
We went over #24 on WS 4.5 and then collected it. We also played through about 9 review questions using Kahoot. Then students had 20 minutes to complete their quiz 4.5.

We examined 12 different quadratic functions and saw that we could use a factoring techniques on some of them to find the x-intercepts. We completed this together. We also mentioned that if the intercept method doesn't work, we can always go back to using x = -b/(2a) to find the axis of symmetry and the vertex.

This should be done by Monday, 9/19. HW: Complete WS 4.5 Test Prep and WS 4.5. Quiz 4.5 is tomorrow. Test on 4.1 - 4.5, not 4.3 is Tuesday, 9/20. We went over WS 4.5 (1 - 17) and then students used the graphing calculator to solve the 6 problems on the back by using the graphing method. We also looked at 1 more factoring technique, grouping method. This is a good choice if there are 4 or more terms. We did 1 - 4 together on WS 4.4 Enrichment and students will complete 5 - 8.

We completed the last page which contained 10 examples.

Students completed Quiz 4.4. Then they were to complete some other more challenging factoring problems on WS 4.4 23 - 39. Use the box method or guess and check.
HW: WS 4.4 23 - 39 We checked through our work on WS 4.4 & WS 4.4 Test Prep. This was collected. Then we completed the first page of our notes 4.4 - 4.5 and looked at a third form form a quadratic: intercept (or factored) form.
We saw how we could fairly easily create the graph from the factored form and easily found the x-intercepts. We also went over 1 - 12 in the packet. Quiz 4.4 on the factoring methods will be on Monday 9/12. We went over the Box method for factoring a trinomial with the leading coefficient something other than 1 or a GCF. For those not wanting to use the Box method, we demonstrated how one could use guess and check.

In the computer lab, students were working with partners where they asked yes or no type questions to determine which parabola was selected. Then for the last 10 - 15 minutes students worked on an individual session that used our factoring skills.
Go to student.desmos.com and enter the code: MACR to complete the activity if you did not finish in class. HW: Complete the factoring problems 1 - 6, 9 - 11 on today's worksheet. We went over their 4.1 - 4.2 Quizzes from Friday. Then we reviewed 3 factoring methods: greatest common factor, difference of squares, and factoring x^2 + bx + c. We also completed the 4.4 vocab support page in our notes. Students had time to complete 1 - 15 in class.
HW: Complete 1 - 15 from today's worksheet 4-4. Tomorrow go to computer lab D12C. Using Kahoot, students completed a 10 question review of standard form and vertex forms of a quadratic. Then students had 27 minutes to complete their quiz 4.1 - 4.2.
HW: None if you have turned in all your work through 4.2. |
