HW: Complete the 3 pages of today's packet. Do not do WS 6.7.
Since I was at a district meeting, students had time to work together on WS 6.6 Test Prep and WS 6.8 transformations with radical functions.

We went over 86 - 88 & 90 - 93 from the book assignment 6.6. We also did 3 review problems from section 6.4. Students completed their quiz 6.4 - 6.5 and then used the rest of class to complete and turn in WS 6.6.
Book assignment 6.6 will be collected tomorrow, 1/14. HW: Book 6.6: Page 402 - 404 22 - 38 even, 45, 46, 50 - 57, 66 - 75, 86 - 88, 90 - 93 Third hour completed their notes from yesterday. Both classes worked through a given problem with a 25% discount followed by a $5 off discount. We wrote each of these discounts using function notation and were able to evaluate the price after both discounts were applied (25% off then -$5 and the reverse order). We also went over the domain questions (1 - 8) on WS 6.6. Students used the rest of class to complete WS 6.6.
HW: Complete all of WS 6.6. Quiz 6.4 - 6.5 is tomorrow, 1/14. Please complete this part of the book 6.6 assignment tonight: page 405 86 - 88 and 90 - 93. Students completed a 3 question bell-ringer of evaluating functions. Then we went through how to combine two functions together to form a new function. We used the 4 basic operations (+, -, *, /) and also substituted 1 function in for another. We completed the 6.6 class notes on composition of functions.

Quiz 6.4 - 6.5 on Wednesday, 1/13. Students completed the TI-Nspire activity Extraneous Solutions, which reinforced the graphically approach as a technique that can be used to solve a radical equation. Students also used the class time to complete WS 6.5 29 - 45 odd, 25 - 28, 51 & 52.
HW: Complete the problems from WS 6.5 and today's worksheet on solving radical equations algebraically. We went over 1 - 12 on WS 6.5 and then completed the last 6 problems on the page together. Students completed through #24 in class. We checked the last 6 problems . Students had time in class to work on WS 6.5 and graphing calculators were available. Use desmos.com if you don't have a graphing calculator.
HW: WS 6.5 do 29 - 43 odd We examined 10 radical equations and discussed various methods that could be used to solve them. We came up with 3 methods: guess & check, graphing, and isolating the variable (algebraic method). We showed how to use the graphing method in class and also demonstrated the algebraic method.

Students received their 6.1 - 6.3 quizzes back. This material will be on the chapter 6 test. Students were given a review packet from section 6.4 and we completed the first 3 pages together. HW: Students are to complete either the left or right column on WS 6.4 Practice and everyone does #31. |
