Today we learned about slope-intercept form of a line. We found that if we can name the slope (m) and the y-intercept (b) we can write the equation of a line in the form y = mx + b. We completed the first half of our notes today.

We found the slope of a line, determined if 2 lines were parallel or perpendicular or neither. Students had the last 25 minutes to complete their slope packet (from Monday) and it can be turned in on Monday, 9/29. I did collect the worksheet from yesterday.
HW: Complete the slope packet. Today we completed the first 3 pages of today's handout in class. Big ideas were that lines that are parallel will have the same slope and lines that are perpendicular have opposite reciprocal slopes.
HW: Complete today's packet and WS Slope Today we started with 3 - 5 graphs of lines that we were able to find their slopes. Then we used the rest of class to complete an investigation of slope with the TI-Nspire activity, Understanding Slope. We completed the front side together in class.

We completed our notes on slope as the ratio of the vertical change (rise) to the horizontal change (run). Students may use their in class worksheet on slope from unit 1. We also noticed that the slope of a horizontal line is zero and the slope of a vertical line is undefined.
Students also had 10 minutes to complete HW: WS Slope (1 - 12) and complete WS As the Crow Flies. We went over the entire WS practice test today in class. Students who have any missing work for this unit need to hav
HW: Unit 1 test is tomorrow. Study your practice test and quizzes from this unit, & use http://www.classzone.com chapter 1 lessons quizzes for more practice. We went over question #4 on WS with Max & Christian. Then second hour had nearly the who class to work on the group activity: As the Crow Flies. Thrid hour did a requiz of distance and midpoint and had about 15 minutes to complete the front side of As the Crow Flies.
HW: Complete the WS Practice Test. Your first test is this Friday, 9/19. Today we went over yesterday worksheet (3 questions about Christian, Max and the Gym). Each student had a problem on calculating the distance and midpoint. We went over the 4 versions of this question. Then we went over 6-8 on the WS Segment Addition, Distance, & Midpoint Practice Quiz. This was collected. Student completed their quiz on distance and midpoint.
If you are having questions, please get help as soon as possible. Our first test will be Friday, 9/19. You will not be given midpoint or distance formulas. You need to know them. You can use www.classzone.com for practice qu HW: WS Review Unit 1 do 1 - 15, and #4 copied in class about Christian & Max going to the gas station. |
