Today we started with a review of 5 limit questions. Students received their 2.2 Quiz back & we went over common errors. Then students were able to try their hand at developing the trig derivatives of cot (x), sec (x), and csc (x). Students worked out the problem on the right side of their paper and then checked their work with the solutions on the left side of the papaer. We also discussed these in class and reviewed quotient rule and product rule.
Tomorrow students will turn in book assignment 2.3 & WS Review 2.3/2.2. Test on this Friday, over 2.1 - 2.3. Today we reviewed how to make a derivative graph from a given function. We did 4 examples together. Then students completed the 2.2 Power Rule Quiz. We also went to the Big Derivative Puzzle and matched 4 of the graphs.
Homework: Have all of book 2.3 done & the review worksheets 2.3 & 2.2 (handed out yesterday) and go to the Big Derivative Puzzle link on the AP Calc page and match the function to its derivative graph. Today students received a 6 questions pre-quiz on 2.2. We went over the solutions in class. Students had the rest of class to complete the 2.3 book assignment. They also received a review packet for 2.2 - 2.3.
Homework: Book assignment 2.3 should be completed tonight. Quiz 2.2 is tomorrow (10/11). Use the link below for additional quotient rule review/practice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3MxofAF-9o&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJUGoAtF-7A See what you think of this Quotient Rule Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdV2UZV7AoA&feature=related Today we learned how to use the quotient rule to find the derivative. We completed at least 3 examples in class. Then students took their 2.1 Quiz.
Homework: You should have at least half of the 2.3 book assignment completed. Bring your books tomorrow as we will have a wrap up day on product & quotient rules. Today 5th hour went through 4 examples of the product rule. 7th hour had Keytrain.
Want to see more examples of product rule, use the link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPCjqfT0Ixg Homework: Complete the WS Instantaneous Rate of Change. I will collect book assignments 2.1 & 2.2 tomorrow. Quiz 2.1 will be tomorrow (10/9). You must know the definition of the derivative using the limit process. Today we completed our notes in section 2.2. We examined y = sin x and found that y' = cos x. Next we looked at y = cos x and found that y' = -sin x. Then we did a couple of problems that asked for the equation of the tangent line at a specific point (revisted #3 from the WS 2.1 Review). We also lsaw how the derivative is also known as the instantaneous rate of change and how that links position and velocity together (velocity is the derivative of the position function).
Homework: Complete the book assignment for 2.2 Quiz on 2.1 will be this Wednesday, October 9th. We completed our 5 warm-up problems that reviewed the definition of continuity. We looked for regularity (patterns) in our work when we used the limit definition of the derivative. We were able to make some generalizations about the derivatives of constant, linear, quadratic and eventually functions with any rational exponent.
Homework: Book assignment 2.2 complete up through #62 (for now skip 19, 21, 23, 37 & 53) To reviewed what we learned this past week click the links below. http://www.calculus-help.com/the-difference-quotient/ http://www.calculus-help.com/the-power-rule/ Today after our 5 warm-up questions, which reviewed one-sided limits, we went over any questions from last night's homework. We also received a 5 question review of 2.1 that was turned in at the end of class. Students also had the opportunity to work together for 25 minutes (5th hour, but 10 minutes 7th hour).
Homework: Complete book assignment 2.1 and the in class ha Today we completed our notes on section 2.1 and looked at how we could use the limit definition of the derivative to determine the slope of the tangent line. We checked our work graphically. To see more examples of finding the derivative go the to link below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wH-g60EJ18&feature=relmfu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzDYOHETFlo Homework: complete book assignment 2.1 through #48 Today we completed in class the two worksheets on Concept of the Derivative & Differentiability & Continuity. We made the connection that if a function is locally linear then it is differentiable.
Homework is to read through the examples in 2.1. We will tackle the book problems in 2.1 tomorrow. |
