HW: Please turn in work from 4.7 (day 1, day 2 & book 4.7). Quiz 4.7 is tomorrow, 10/14.
We completed our notes on finding the absolute value of a complex number as well as adding, subtracting, and multiplying complex numbers. For the last 15 minutes of class, students worked with their tablemates to solve 12 quadratic equations by factoring or by using the quadratic formula. Students will have 15 minutes to complete this tomorrow.

Students were given a review on the quadratic formula. We went over 1-4 together on WS 4.7 Test Prep. Then we started our notes on complex numbers. We learned what a complex number is and how to write a complex number from the square root of a negative number. We also looked at the powers of i and solve the quadratic equation x^2 + 1 = 0.

Then students had the rest of class to complete book 4.7 assignment. I had the opportunity to visit with each table to answer questions.
HW: Complete book 4.7 & turn in your 2 quadratic formula worksheets from this week. We started with WS 4.7 day 2 where we solved a quadratic equation using the quadratic formula. Students had time to complete 1 - 6 on the front side. Then we completed the back side together, discussing the discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) and how it will indicate the number and type of solutions one can have from a quadratic equation.

Students were given 10 minutes to complete their test, if needed. Then we went through how to use the quadratic formula to solve a quadratic equation. The first step is to always get the equation = 0 and then determine the a, b, & c values. We completed 5 examples together. We also checked our work by using desmos.com and looking at the x-intercepts.

Students turned in their review packet 4.4 - 4.5 for their test. If a student did not take a test, it must be made up on their own time before or after school, during lunch or a study hall. This must be done by Tuesday, October 11th otherwise students will have to complete the reassessment process.
HW: None We completed the review packet 4.4 - 4.5 in class. Over the past 2 days, all problems have been worked out. Students will need to turn in the review packet for their test tomorrow.
HW: Complete & turn in any missing work from 4.4 - 4.5. Turn in the complete review packet 4.4 - 4.5 for your test tomorrow, 10/4. |
