HW: Complete the 4.1 review sheet. Quiz 4.1 is tomorrow.Plea
We went over the 4.1 Test Prep Questions. Then we reviewed how to find the axis of symmetry (x = h) and the range (y < or > k depending on the sign of "a"). Both of these values are linked to the vertex of the parabola. Then we completed the first 2 problems on the 4.1 review sheet.

Students went to the computer lab where they worked through a desmos activity called Match My Parabola. This allowed students to practice using correct value of a, h, & k to create a parabola that hit a given vertex and point. If you did not finish this activity, log into IC for your class code.
HW: Complete WS 4.1 Test Prep 1 - 4. Students were given a card and asked to match their equation, vertex, or graph to create their group of 3. Then students worked together on matching the given parabola graph with its vertex, axis of symmetry, and its equation. I visited each group to answer questions. I also checked each groups answer sheets - nicely done! Then students completed exit slip 2b. 3rd hour we checked over the 8 homework problems from yesterday.
HW: Complete the front side of today's worksheet (1 - 4). Tomorrow, please go directly to computer lab D12A. This is near the auditorium. Students completed the from page of today's packet which named the effects of a, h, and k when using vertex form [y = a(x - h)^2 + k]. Together we completed 6 problems with a given parabola and asked to write an equation to match it. Then we graphed 2 equations that were in vertex form.
Use the link for review/practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5F2Pywzzlw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K4S0pWxmmk HW: Complete today's packet. We started with Kahoot where students answered 9 questions on transformations using vertex form of a quadratic function. Then we went over WS 4.1 Reteaching were we found the vertex, axis of symmetry and graphed the parabola. Students had time to wrap up their 4.1 WS Investigating Families of Parabolas.
Lastly, we students completed exit slip #2. HW: Turn in 4.1 WS Investigating Families of Parabolas if you did not do so today. Use your book section 4.1 for any review or extra practice. Enjoy the weekend! We went to the computer lab today and students completed the Desmos activity, Will It Hit the Hoop? Students saw how a quadratic function modeled the path of the basketball. Also, they found that if they knew the path of the parabola they were better able to predict if the shoot would be made.
HW: Complete the worksheet. Students completed the WS 4.1 Vocab Support as a class warm-up. The 9 vocabulary terms are important to know. You can use the sheet for review. Then we worked on identifying the values of a, h, and k from a given equation. We looked at what transformation(s) would occur and then made about 4 of the graphs together. Third hour completed a 6 question exit slip.
HW: Students are to complete the graphs from on page 3 and complete the last page. You can check your graphs with a graphing calculator or desmos.com . Tomorrow, please go to computer lab D12A, which is near the auditorium. We examined the transformations that occurred with the new function compared to the parent of y = x^2, looking at the effects of a, h and k on our parabola. We completed the first 2 pages together on our notes packet.
Then we used https://www.desmos.com/calculator to verify the vertex and graphs we made and confirm our ideas about the effects of h and k. Students examined the graphs of total solar eclipse paths that covered the continental US for the past 500 years. Using given coordinates, they plotted cities and found which year(s) they encountered a solar eclipse. Students can use the links below to complete the activity.

We reviewed the classroom expectations. Then we played a game where students were given a slogan and ask to identify the company. The slogans selected could be used for our classroom or the school year. The last half of class students completed the Knowledge Search activity. Each student had the opportunity to meet peers and answer fun facts about school, math, and other random facts.
Enjoy the weekend! |
